Wierd issue when using Color Print.
So I tried using color print. After struggling with the getting the filament to sufficiently retract, I am now able to successfully unload the 1st filament and load in the new color. The issue I am having is that after the new filament is loaded, and the new color has finished extruding, I hit "changed correctly" and the head starts moving back toward the print to continue printing. While moving though, it squirts out about an inch of filament on the way so I need to be standing there with a long pliers to grab the filament off the nozzle while the head is moving toward the print. I assume its priming the nozzle while moving back into position but the small piece does not fall off the nozzle so unless I grab it off, it gets mashed into the printed piece.
Re: Wierd issue when using Color Print.
Yup, pretty much how it is. It is pretty easy just to watch and grab it with your fingers just as the head starts to move.

... unless you're changing colors at Z=10mm or less, so your fingers don't fit between nozzle and bed. 😉
Re: Wierd issue when using Color Print.
Mine seems to move the head all the way to the right and the bed all the way back! I usually leave the big strand that accumulates then when it extrudes that little bit more yank the whole thing off!
Re: Wierd issue when using Color Print.
I had the same thing and use some thick kitchen towel folded in half, and run it back and forth to knock off the bits as it goes back. works great for me but is annoying that it cannot clean in an empty area and retract... but then why would be buy the upgrade kit....
Re: Wierd issue when using Color Print.
Hi Guys,
there was another thread earlier today,
http://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/software-f13/color-change-script-broken--t2513.html#p19951
what I think is happenning, is that when you edit your G code, you are leaving the extruder 'prime' command in the g code...
in the image above I have shown a small section of G code.
I have identified one line before the layer change, where the extruder prepares by retracting the filament.
the extruder is then re positioned (line not marked)
then the z motors raise to the next layer height Marked,
ant then if you were continuing without colour change, the printer would prime the extruder ready to continue...
as you will see in the other post, you need to remove the prime commands, because when you change the filament colour, you are effectively also priming the extruder,
if you then prime again, you get filament squirting out of the extruder just as it starts to move back to the workpiece...
which leads to exactly the problem you are experiencing...
please be aware that the extruder is likely to dribble a tiny bit after the colour change so it's worthwhile wiping it the moment it starts to move after changing colour...
but the dribble is a lot less than the prime waste!
if you look at the other post, you will see the revised 'G' code
regards Joan

Re: Wierd issue when using Color Print.
I really found it to be a non issue. I do the filament change, let it extrude and NOT removing any filament, then hit OK and when it starts to move back it primes and at that point I just pull the extruded filament and it all comes right off.

TheRe are often sever all ways to complete a job.
Different folk different strokes...
As long as it works. Who cares?

Re: Wierd issue when using Color Print.
I'm having the same problem on the (single filament) Mk2s.
I'm slicing with PrusaControl so I have no gcode editing settings to play with and (although I have the skills) I don't want to have to manually edit gcode on every single thing I print.
Is there a data file somewhere in PrusaControl that can be edited to change the defaults for priming and/or raising the Z for the change?
The items that i'm repeatedly printing require a layer change at 1.1mm height making it really hard to do any kind of cleaning/grabbing of the dribble.
