Size of Rods

I think I made a mistake somewhere, with the size of the rods.
There are 3 different rods in pairs.
Can you tell me the size of each rod?
And which sized rod is for which axis?

I hope I don't have to disassemble the whole printer 🙄

Thank you in advanced.

Hi

The Y rods are detailed here: http://manual.prusa3d.com/Guide/2.+Y+axis/40 (step 2),
the X rods here: http://manual.prusa3d.com/Guide/3.+X+axis/41 (step 3)
and the Z rods here: http://manual.prusa3d.com/Guide/4.+Z+axis/89 (step 11 and 14)

Can you state the length of each rod?
This isn't included in the instructions.

Else I have to start from scratch, to compare the rods...
Y-Rod: ..... CM
X-Rod: ..... CM
Z-Rod: ..... CM

Re: Size of Rods

Hi

Unfortunately, without taking my printer apart, I can't tell you the lengths. I may be able to do this on Sunday as I am in the middle of an 80 hour print at the moment.

Sorry.

Peter

EDIT

The Y smooth rods appear to be about 335mm and the Z smooth rods about 320mm.

Re: Size of Rods

The problem was that the wrapping spiral for around the cables was wrapped around my rods... (didn't notice it was a wrapping, thought it was plastic which belonged on the rod)

So I thought I had the good one....apparantly not 🙁

If possible it's also ok to tell the lengths visible (so no need to break down the printer)

Curious what your printing, which lasts 80 hours....

Re: Size of Rods

Yeah, not getting too close to the printer while it's working...

The X rods (the longest ones?) have about 320mm visible.

The part which holds the clock of the Elizabeth Clock Tower. Measures 185 x 185 x 192. And I have the print speed fairly high (perimeters are 50mm/s)

When finished, I will put some lights inside and make it into a standard lamp. Might even make the clock work.

Re: Size of Rods

In all honesty, I think we are all beginners...

This is the second one I have printer. The first was only 750mm tall and printed on a Chinese clone. Quality not as good as this one.

Re: Size of Rods

Zach

That would be eBay, but they are not necessary and have their own problems. And the Z end-stop holders need to be re-worked.

If your existing connectors are correctly fitted (with heat shrink correctly positioned and shrunk), then you are probably better off sticking with those.

Re: Size of Rods

Had to do some dis-assembly so...
Length of x rods: 370mm
Lenght of z rods: 330mm

Got this from support:
Smallest smooth rod: 8mm x 320mm
Middle smooth rod: 8mm x 330mm
Longest smooth rod: 8mm x 370mm

So y rods are 320mm.

Re: Size of Rods

I wanted to update my X,Y,Z-axis rods lengths to achieve quieter and smoother performance. My understanding is the rods and bearings are the thing to replace. So far after researching today I think I found a decent choice for replacement bearings and rods. Can the community confirm my BOM before I hit the purchase button.

If my research is correct the appropriate lengths rods are:
Smallest smooth rod: 8mm x 320mm
Middle smooth rod: 8mm x 330mm
Longest smooth rod: 8mm x 370mm
