[Resolved ]Firmware upgrade always fails on windows
Hello,
I have received my kit, built it, wanted to upgrade the firmware and was greeted by:
Firmware updater v2
avrdude.exe: stk500v2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout
avrdude.exe: stk500v2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout
avrdude.exe: stk500v2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout
avrdude.exe: stk500v2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout
avrdude.exe: stk500v2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout
avrdude.exe: stk500v2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout
avrdude.exe: stk500v2_getsync(): timeout
communicating with programmer avrdude.exe done. Thank you.
It appears in device manager as:

This happens on three different machines: Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10..
Hope somebody can help me..
EDIT: Resolved by trying the same while having the printer ON. Who knew..

yeah, the circuit for the usb <-> rs232 interface is powered by the computer... so the computer "sees" the printer.... even when it is switched OFF 🙄
nice to know that such things happens others too.

I'm sorry if I'm resurrecting an old thread, but does the printer have to be powered by the PSU when flashing the firmware?
