Replacement blower fan?

I think I may have damaged the blower fan on my new MK2, as it's suddenly become very noisy so I fear it may not be long for this world. Where can I get a fan to replace it? There are only a few parts available on the 3D printer parts page, so I'm a little unsure what to do. Any suggestions?

Re: Replacement blower fan?

All fans blow so I am a bit confused as to what fan you are referring too (part vs hot end). I did a quick search and pulled this previous thread http://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk2-f23/mk1-upgrade-part-fan-problem--t2157.html#p17124 look a few posts down for Peter's comment on where to purchase a new part cooling fan. I believe the hot end fan is the same size as a stock e3d v6 fan http://e3d-online.com/E3D-v6/Spares/40x40x10mm-12v-DC-Fan

If the hot end fan is a different size then please somebody correct me.

The radial part fan can also be purchased from E3D here: http://e3d-online.com/Electrical/Fans/50x50x15mm-12v-DC-Side-Blow-Fan

Note that is has a longer lead than the ones available on eBay and the like (as does their extruder fan).

Re: Replacement blower fan?

Jarred and Peter, thanks for the help. I was fairly certain it was available somewhere online, but without knowing the specific name of the part I was having trouble coming up with anything on google or a search on the forums.

Re: Replacement blower fan?

Actually, it turns out it was the hotend cooling fan that I had damaged, not the blower. In the middle of a long print I was getting a lot of filament string between parts, and while the print head was in another area I tried to clean some of it off with some tweezers. The hotend came over to the area I was working in unexpectedly and I wasn't able to get the tweezers away in time, I must have caught the hotend fan with the tweezers and broken off one of the 7 fins on it.

I'm pretty sure it's a 30mm fan and not a 40mm one, but they should be readily available at a computer parts store, the only issue will be if I can find one with a long enough wire (though I can solder/splice if I must).

Anyway, the issue I'm having right now is that I can't pull the plug for the hotend cooling fan off of the RAMBO board. The plug for the blower fan I can easily remove, but the hotend cooling fan seems to have some kind of latch mechanism that I can't figure out how to disengage. It appears to have a plastic tab in the middle of it, but pushing that in with needle-nose pliers while pulling on the whole plug doesn't release it. I'm afraid to pull any harder for fear of damaging the board. Any advice on how to remove it?

I was finally able to get it out. It was just a little tricky and a matter of getting the little tab depressed just right while pulling it out. Now to see if my local Fry's has a fan I can use to replace it, or if I need to order something online and have to live without my MK2 working for a few days...

Just noticed that Jarred had linked the 40mm fan instead of the 30mm extruder cooling fan. Here's the correct fan from E3D: http://e3d-online.com/Electrical/Fans/30x30x10mm-12v-DC-Fan

Re: Replacement blower fan?

Thanks for the info. Question about fan power. The one you linked to is rated at 4.1cfm. I found a 30mmx30mm fan at my local electronics store that's rated at 3.4 cfm. Is that enough that I can use it safely, or is there a danger of the hotend and the ABS that's holding it overheating?

Conversely, there is this fan (which I can order in the US without overseas shipping) that's rated at 6.5 cfm. Is that too much cooling? Can you have too much cooling on your hotend?

Re: Replacement blower fan?

Derek

I think you need a fan that is at least equivalent spec to the original, otherwise you could end up with nozzle blockages.

I believe that E3D has retailers in the US: https://www.filastruder.com/

Peter

30mm fan: https://www.filastruder.com/collections/e3d-spare-parts-and-accessories/products/e3d-30mm-fan

Re: Replacement blower fan?

Derek,

I ordered a liteV6 hot end from Filastruder.com and their shipping was fast. Ordered it on a Sunday and it arrived in VA on the following Wednesday. The item shipped from Georgia.

Re: Replacement blower fan?

Thanks for the info. Does the fan ordered from filastruder have the same plug at the end as the one that ships with the MK2?

Re: Replacement blower fan?

I am on work travel in Hawaii but I can check what connector came on my fan included in the lite6 kit from filastruder when I get home Sunday. It's the same 30x30x10mm. Filastruder does respond to questions within a few hours. You could ask them about the connector and if the leads are 1m long (length given on E3D).

Re: Replacement blower fan?

Derek,

Sorry for the late response. These are a few images from the fan that was sent in my E3D lite6 kit ordered from Filastruder. Which seems to differ if ordering the fan by itself as E3D lists the fan (if ordered by itself) as having a 1m leads.
