Problems with latest print (photo enclosed)

Hi there,

I have been having problems with the latest prints. I am trying to print knobs but I am getting results such in the attached picture, where the print is not layered well, and very very brittle. I can cut the print in half using my fingers and very little force.

What is causing this?
I cleaned the nozzle with the included needle. But I don't think that is what is causing this. As you can see the first layers are ok. And in all of the latest prints, the first few layers are ok as well.

Any help with this? I need to print critical parts soon and need to have this under control.
Cheers,
e.

Are you using the original spool holder? It is VERY tight to provide good filament feed, sometimes extruder struggles, a lot. :/

Print a new holder, or at least some upgrades for it. 🙂

I have personally printed: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1832235

and never seen feed troubles since.

I have never used original holder. So, it's very difficult for me to reply to your question. But as per my experience, you should contact with the support team of the filament or printer company. They may provide a better solution than anyone else.

Re: Problems with latest print (photo enclosed)

@emanuele.c:
did you slice the model yourself ?
which type of filament do you use, at which temperature (lower or upper end) ?
do you have the same problems with prints from the sd card that came with the printer (like the the pug or marvin) ?
have you checked the extruder pulleye ? does it sit tight at the axis of the stepper motor ? is it "in line" with the filament and the bearing ?
how about the springs, are they not to tight and not to loose ?
have you already done an extruder calbiration ?
did you already tune the PID values for the hotend ?
does the trapezoid nuts at the z-axis spindles run "smooth", or is there some blocking ?
how fast do you print ?
did you monitor the temperature during the print ? is there no fluctuation when z rises above a certain level ?
do you have the effect in both modes (high-power / silent) ?
....

➡ i expect the clue lies somewhere in the answers to this list of questions, even so that there can certainly be added some more.... and depending on the answers, further questions will arise.

dem inscheniör is' nix zu schwör...

Thank you all.
I don't think it's the spool that is causing the problem as I never had it before a couple of days ago.

Jeff:
I sliced the model myself, yes. Created in Solidworks.
Using the PLA that comes with the i3 MKII
Did not try printing the PUG or MArvin but again I did not have this problem a few days ago It just started
Pulley is in line yes. and sits tightly.
Done the PID autotuning now. Will report findings.
Tried printing at 100%, 90% and 50%. Does not make any difference.

Try calibrating the extruder.
