Re: Printer reboots when initating pre-heat
I would check to see if one of the heater cables has been worn through by rubbing on the y-carriage nut. This happened to mine even with proper cable routing and management. It wore down to bare copper and if I hadn't noticed I'm sure it would have eventually shorted out against said nut and caused the problem you are describing.

Baring in mind my recent issues, that is a good call.

Re: Printer reboots when initating pre-heat
Hey guys,
Just an update. Physically the heat-bed looked fine, got another heat-bed and everything worked perfectly. Just in case someone encounters the issue, this thread pops up first on Google 🙂
Re: Printer reboots when initating pre-heat
I figured I'll post here too since I'm getting this issue, but with a difference. My printer reboots even if I haven't yet initiated pre-heat.
Just yesterday the LCD was fully populated and the printer rebooted only 10-20 seconds after I powered it on, but it can also do that just moments after I initiate a pre-heat. This couldn't be the same issue as any of the other guys in here. What could it be?

If you only heat the bed via Pronterface, does the printer still reboot?

Re: Printer reboots when initating pre-heat
Hi Peter,
I never use Pronterface though, but for me it can reboot even if I have only powered it on without giving it any commands.

There are two options:
1. Do you have the PSU set to the correct voltage?
2. Contact support (Live Chat via shop pages) and advise them accordingly. If the correct voltage is set, than it could be that you have a faulty PSU or RAMBo.

Re: Printer reboots when initating pre-heat
PSU is set to 220V
And yes, I fear that I have to contact the support. It would be better to find the cause of this problem now than later. Thanks for your input.

I contacted support, but before I did that, I noticed that this reboot only happens when the USB is connected to a computer, and it also reboots just at the moment that RAMBo connects through the usb (data LED blinking on the board). I got a nice answer to this by the support team, and it does this by design, as it goes from SD mode to PC mode a reboot is needed. So nothing is wrong with my printer.

Re: Printer reboots when initating pre-heat
Hi Sascha
Yes the printer does reboot when a DTR signal is seen on its serial interface. Basically, the computer or other device (OctoPrint for example), when a connection is made to the printer, raises the DTR (Data Terminal Ready) signal to denote its presence.
In order to switch from SD card mode to terminal control mode, the printer then reboots to reset its inputs. However, when a disconnection occurs, a reboot of the printer is not necessary as the SD card is "internal" so that switch occurs seamlessly.

Re: Printer reboots when initating pre-heat
😳 Well Red Faced and all. My printer was doing the same thing and I contacted David on "Chat" Support. He said "Unhook, check 110-220 switch and make sure it is set to my current. Set to your current and hook back up". WOW! works like a charm! 😳
