Print stops if device connected to usb restarts or wakes

Hello 3d world!

New proud owner of original prusa i3 mk2 here. And so far I must say this is one great printer we have. I'm loving it, been printing non stop since saturday when I finished the kit. This forum and tech support have been alot of help when puting the kit togather and when I had to troubleshoot print problems.

But as the title states every time a device that is connected to the printer be it my laptop or raspeberry with octoprint, restarts or wakes from sleep it will stop my print and z axis lowers by a mm or 2 usually sinking in to the model. So far it happened 2 times, once with my laptop when I woke it up and once with octoprint on my raspberry that had restarted for some unknown reason. I would really like to resolve this as I find octoprint to be of great value to me but as long as there is a possibility of stopping my prints I will not use it.

Has any one had a similar experience?

edit: spelling!

Never leave USB connected while you print from SD card, it's simple like that.

If you are printing via OctoPrint (as many on here do), you should not be using the SD card and OctoPrint does not (to the best of my knowledge) have a "sleep" mode.

Connect the printer to your Pi and leave it connected unless you are uploading new firmware from the PC. When printing from the PI, always load the models to the Pi itself and print from there and not the Printer SD card - in fact, remove the printer SD card.

I think pi restarted due to some other reason then being a sleep, might be a bad power supply or pi it self, its the 1st model.
I'll give it another go with out the SD card and see how it turns out. I hope its really this simple 🙂

Thank you for your help.

You really need at least the Pi2 to run OctoPrint reliably and in addition you need at least a 2 Amp PSU.

Yes I noticed that performance of octoprint on pi1 isn't the best. I'm planning on buying pi3 but since I had the old one on hand I gave it a go.
