New Build Heatbed issues

We've just built our printer (or what looks like one). The issue we seem to have with is the heatbed "thermistor". When going through the calibration step as per http://manual.prusa3d.com/Guide/Calibrate+i3+Plus+LCD-SD/4?lang=en where it asks you to preheat, the Heatbed reads as 7/0 rather than the 30/0 that i have read/viewed it should. It doesn't increase with time (the extruder heats and the fan comes on at 50 c as per the instructions).

We have checked the connection and they all seem good. I tried switching the thermistors so that the Heatbed plugged into the the extruder thermistor slot and vica versa. This time the Extruder showed 7/0 and the Heatbed was ok so it doesn't look like the board .... more like a problem with the Heatbed thermistor wiring/connectivity.

Any suggestions of what to try (keeping in mind I'm a novice)?

many thanks .... Ross

Re: New Build Heatbed issues

Hi Ross

Do you have a multimeter? If so, measure the resistance of the thermistor. Then turn on the heated bed (the LED on the bed should light) for 30 seconds whilst measuring the thermistor resistance. If the heated bed LED does not turn on, then hold the thermistor between your fingers for a few seconds to see if there is any resistance change.

It does sound as though the thermistor cable/connector has a bad connection. If that is the case, contact Prusa support via shop page/live chat and advise them of the problem - give them a link to this thread.

Thanks very much for getting back to me Peter. Unfortunately I am away from home for the next two weeks but as soon as I get back I will try this (although it is probably at the limit of my limited abilities 😉 ) and see how I go.

Hi Ross

There are a couple of other users also having thermistor issues, so I suggest that you contact support as previously mentioned and advise them of the problem.

It seems that there may have been a bad batch of thermistors supplied.
