Need tips to improve

Hello everyone,

I'm totally unexperienced with 3d printing and I need help to improve.

I did print the prusa logo which was ok, then i tried the whistle but I'm really not satisfied with the result. The thing is I don't know what I have to change to make it better. I would be really grateful if someone could give me some tips and changes I could do to make my prints better.

As I am not an english native speaker so I prefer to show pictures so you can see what's wrong. I can hardly explain it with words.

I was thinking that maybe the fan is not strong enough?
I use mk2 with the free PLA provided by Prusa. Whistle is the one provided on SD card.

Thanks in advance!

Michael

Your whistle is certainly not as good as the one I have here; the only problem is that like you, I have printed mine from the SD card using filament supplied by Prusa Research.

So if we are both printing the exact same file using similar filament the only difference can be the printer itself.

I do know my printer is working properly, so we have to look at yours to see if there is anything wrong.

Really the only things I can think of is one of the following may not be quite right:

  • one of the fans not working properly
the filament drive pulley screw may not be tight enough
the X/Y belt is not tight enough
the X.Y drive pulley screws are not tight enough
  • Peter

This is how my whistle printed with ABS as with ABS the cooling fan is off. It printed perfectly with PLA.

It looks very much as if the fan was off. Didn't you by mistake print the G-code for the ABS material? That G-code for ABS has the cooling fan off.

    Does the big fan work?

Thanks a lot for the replies, it's very much appreciated!

    PJR:

I checked everything, one of the belts was not so tight, I tried to fix it but it's pretty hard to get it super tight. Still I think it should be tight enough now.
I will cross my fingers and give another try. Other points you mentioned seemed ok to me.
The most complicated stuff I assembled before the mk2 was a Ikea furniture...that might be the explanation. :p

    vojtěch.b3 :

I wish this would have been the explanation but both fans are working unfortunately.

    Thanks again for the help!

My second try has exactly the same issue... I feel quite despaired 🙁

What I don't get is that the first third of the print is almost perfect and then it's getting messy... This might be a clue?
I really don't know what else I could try.

Uhhh...I feel really stupid but I think I should be fair and give you a feedback here. 😳

My front fan (big one) actually doesn't work. I thought it did, the selftest was saying everything was ok but I guess the room was too dark or I need glasses! :geek: :ugeek: 😳 At least I found where problem comes from.

I guess... But the thing is I couldn't try to print with a working fan yet. The fan is correctly connected (this time I triple checked) and never starts. I had a chat with support which asked me to send pictures of the connections to [email protected] so they send me a new working fan.

Unfortunately no one took the time to answer my email yet. Which disappoints me a bit. I waited 3 weeks to get the printer, a fan is not working so I still can't print and I dont receive an answer. I may be a bit bitter but I think Prusa3D was faster when it was about getting the 750€ from my Paypal account . 😉 Slightly disappointed here.

    Hello Michael,
Thank you for the input but I really do not see any need for disappointment here. The issue was discussed with us over chat where you corrected your statements and informed us that the fan actually does not work which we were not aware of. Then you sent pictures to us, only 5 hours ago actually, and yes, we can send you the printfan as a replacement and the answer will follow. So I guess everything is handled pretty nicely and components almost on the way - actually with the next UPS pick up.
We appreciate that you took the time and checked the fan again. We can only say that the fan was tested before packing and was OK as it is stated in the protocol. Anything can happen really during the assembly, but we are here to help so no worries, we will help and get you the fan you informed us about today ASAP. 🙂

Thanks for the fast feedback. If you had replied that fast to my e-mail I guess I wouldn't have complained here.

But FAIR ENOUGH... I guess the frustration is the cause of my disapointment. After waiting 3 and a half weeks to get the printer (I was warned before I ordered so i am not complaining) it's just really annoying to wait again. I just hope the problem really comes from the fan and not from electronic. Ahah.

Anyway...my reaction was probably excessive but I sometimes felt like the chat support was a bit condescending (not the guy from yesterday) and was not really happy about it. Now I guess the job is hard with all the newbies asking dumb questions because they're too lazy to search by theirselves. 😉

Ok so I did connect the fan the wrong way. The fan is working fine.

    All my mistake...

I feel really REALLY stupid. I'm gonna hide somewhere far away from this forum and never annoy the Prusa crew again. Shame on me.

All my apologies to them. I feel really sorry.
Thanks everyone for the support and sorry for the time lost.

Don't feel embarrassed over it, it happens to everyone at some point. Sometimes you can check something a dozen times and be convinced it's right only to look one more time and discover it's not! I'm also very good at over-reacting to every little thing that seems to go wrong!! The point is you're all up and running and can now start playing with your printer! Have fun! 😀

    Michael

It's the frustration and impatience to blame, not you!

You are not the first to make this mistake and you will certainly not be the last. It happens to the best of us.

Thank you guys for your understanding. 😉

Yesterday I printed the vase from the SD card and I think the result is amazing! I'm totally stoke about it.

A friend of mine has an Ultimaker and when I see his prints I don't regret my choice... I think I can do better prints than he does for half the price! 🙂

Now I have to learn to use Slic3r and start printing my own models. Should be fun!
