Limit switches! N-O or N-C??
Hey guys! I am currently tethering on the edge of entering the 3D printing world, trying desperately to finally cross that line. I was given a (90% complete) assembled 3D printer with 98% of the total parts, and no information or instructions whatsoever!
It is a VERY basic machine which I have matched most closely to a HICTOP Reprap Prusa i3 (with a RepRap V1.3 RAMPS board).
I have managed to track down all the outstanding parts (mostly just cables), except for the endstop switches!
Unfortunately I cant get the original full endstop switches on their cables (since nobody in South Africa sells the exact ones and I can't get them sent to me from the US), like these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014Y0VGOU/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza
However I've managed to buy the actual switches themselves and the plugs to connect to the board. Now I just need to connect them up, but I need to know if the switches are wired NO (normally open) or NC (Normally closed)?
ie: does pressing the switch open or close the circuit?
If anybody can help me here at all I would REALLY appreciate it!!
Thanks a lot
Mike
RE: Limit switches! N-O or N-C??
Hi Mike,
you can use either, normally open or normally closed, if the switch doesn't work correctly you can either change the logic in the firmware. or change the function on the switches

Hallo and welcome in Prusaforum!
Here you will find a lot of information about the different versions of the Ramps boards: https://reprap.org/wiki/RAMPS_1.3
In most cases they are NC, i think also on Ramps V1.3.
Statt zu klagen, dass wir nicht alles haben, was wir wollen, sollten wir lieber dankbar sein, dass wir nicht alles bekommen, was wir verdienen.

@joantabb
Thanks a lot Joan!
The more I learn about 3D printing the more I realise I'm only just starting to scratch the surface! 😆
