LCD doesn't work on my newly assembled Prusa i3

Hi guys,

I've recently bought latest Prusa i3 kit. I've assembled the printer flowing the instructions and when I tried to turn it on LCD screen black, it doesn't turn on. Small yellow light is flashing in where all the electronics, and printer making some computer sounds, like some hardrive was working, and when I turn the main LCD handle, the yellow light is flashing more frequently on the electronics area, so I assume it's working, only the LCD screen doesn't show any life signs. I've installed Pronterface and connected printer to my PC, and it seems it can find it and shows all the statistics, that it's connected, I have even reinstalled drives 1_75mm-RAMBo13a-E3Dv6lite.hex using FirmwareUpdater and had a message that the drivers were successfully updated. Double checked all the wiring and if it's connected properly.... I don't know what to do? 🙂 probably the LCD screen has a fault or something. please see the photos I attached to this email, showing the correct wiring.

You need to flip these cables so the red strip is on the other side.

My apologies for inconvenience, it appears I've connected LCD wires in opposite way, so I flipped it 🙂 Very happy with the product, works perfectly and I have not even a smallest issue with it 🙂 Great stuff!
Got my firs test print!

I have the similar problem and I'm kinda frustrated. I've also swap the LCD cables but the problem remains.
I could connect with Pronterface software but nothing moves. I could upgrade the firmware and that's all.

Another weird thing is the LCD is making a loud beep and lit up the back light when ever I press the knob. To stop it I have to turn the knob.
What exactly is wrong? How to trouble shoot this?

Hi Zach

Best to post a picture of the connectors at each end, then we can have a look to see if there is anything obvious.

Re: LCD doesn't work on my newly assembled Prusa i3

Hi there,

I have just finished my i3 build and I'm getting this exact same fault even down to the strange noises.

My symptoms are:

1) No LCD
2) Strange computer type hissing noises from the LCD beeper.
3) Beeps if i press the button on the LCD
4) If I rotate the dial, the Rambo reboots as proven by having Pronteface running. (You can see the resets.)
5) Pronterface will not do anything (move motors etc) until I disconnect the LCD unit, then it works perfectly - motors and all.

Has anybody solved this or is it a faulty LCD?

Any help would be appreciated.

SOLVED.
=====================================================================================

O.K, I have solved the issue.

I had tried reversing the connectors as stated above before and that hadn't worked. (Why is the PCB marked Pin 1 and the red line on the ribbon goes on the opposite side?? The Red line on a ribbon denotes pin 1!)

Anyway, after reversing the connectors again, I found that there is a little potentiometer on the back of the LCD. This controls the brightness of the text. Twiddling this, brought the LCD on.)

Time to do some printing.

Hi Adrian

Can you please post photos of your connections at both ends (RAMBo and LCD panel).
