Re: Layers splitting + offset in y axis

I tried generating it in S3D, find the attached G-code.

Warping or just get unstuck from the bed? Glue stick won't work for you as print surface?

Hi Josef,

Thank you for the g-code! I will give it a try this Saturday as it is going to be a long print 🙂

Yes, glue stick seems not to be enough for these parts for me. It might be because the big overhang. You can try printing the previous part I attached and see if you are going to have any issues with it. It lifted a lot from bed when I printed it.

Above you can see my results, it lifted over 1mm from the bed.
I think it might be due to the big overhang and when printing the material was very flexible and when cooled it wasn't in the right position causing strains in material.

Kind regards,
Michal Uhman

Hi Michal

Keep the printer away from any drafts and increase the bed temperature. You could also try blue tape, which needs slightly lower temperatures.

Hi Peter,

There shouldn't be any drafts and my plan exactly was to bump up the bed temp to maybe 60 degrees and see the results. Also I am going to try bigger helpers disks for a larger surface adhesion.

A 3 to 5mm brim at 70 degrees on glass should work

Peter,

Is the blue tape any different than yellow masking tape? I don't have the blue one and went to the local shop and they don't have it.
I will order online but it will come somewhere mid week and before then one needs to print! 🙂

A bit of update: I put the Dome Panel for printing today, 200 nozzle, 70bed and despite large contact surface it is still lifting :/
Which is weird as there were no problems with first prints of the same part in terms of lifting.

Re: Layers splitting + offset in y axis

Hi Michal

OK, I use blue tape for glass levelling because I have it available. Whenever I have bed adhesion issues, I revert to blue tape, as I know it will work, but then I find that I have done something wrong (again...).

If it's still lifting at those print temperatures, then I can only guess that the bed is not sufficiently level.

This is my current print in progress:

No raft or brim and no problems. That's at 205/50 with a 0.2mm layer height and rather fast print speeds (70 to 110 mm/sec).

Can I suggest that you clean the glass, 2 layers of glue, bit of tape underneath front and back, re-calibrate and try again? I know that might sound a tad silly because you have probably done all that before, but if I can print it, I am sure you can.

Peter

P.S. Had my BB-8 working for the first time yesterday evening. Your fault!

Peter,

It is all very weird with that lifting. In this print the first layer was probably the most even of all of them so far so it shouldn't be bed leveling problem.
True, there are higher and lower parts of the bed and I am definitely going to try your way around. We'll see if it helps.

I have leveled the bed probably several times now over the last few days. Even when I was getting the overextrusion effect - I think someone posted about that the other day - the parts were lifting from the bed.

Also have you tried buildtak?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/3D-Prima-BT08X08-BuildTak-Surface/dp/B00O17XW9O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1455382314&sr=8-1&keywords=buildtak

I have heard some good opinions about it.

So far I am in 8h of printing BB-8 Dome Panel 1 and have only one defect due to the fact the part lifted from the bed. I glued it back with superglue but then the next layer were slightly higher. Nothing a bit of filler and sand paper can't handle 🙂

P.S
Muhahahaha 😈

I don't really go for the expensive options. I stick with the cheap, cheerful and simple solutions which are known to work. Been using blue tape with great success for a year or so now. It does have to be the right blue tape though, from a 3D printer retailer or the very expensive 3M stuff.

Hi guys!

Just want to report that first dome came out pretty good. Only the lifting problem but I will nail it next week.

Overall, I am very happy with the print quality. Few bit and pieces yet to sort out but finally I am getting some results! 😀

I want to thank Peter and Josef for direct help with my issues, you guys are awesome!
Thank you to rest of you people here that posted, commented or contributed in any way to get my printer straight 🙂

Kind regards,
Michal

Hi Michal

Thank you for your kind words.

For myself, I do take pleasure in being able to assist wherever I can, and at my age, there are very few pleasures remaining!

Peter.

P.S. Looks like I will be printing this thing sometime in the near future and automating it with some spare parts I have here.
