Kit without extruder cover

Hi all,

I received this week my kit and started on Friday assembling it. However on Saturday when starting assembling the extruder, I noticed that my kit was missing the extruder front cover - instead it contained 2 of the idler parts. 😮 😮

That was quite frustrating. The problem is that the front cover holds the extruder and the print fan. However I had the metal of a magnetic door lock that fits exactly with holes of the extruder cover. So I was able to fix the extruder in place. I finished assembling the printer without the print fan and after calibration I printed the missing cover.

I did a very poor job on the first layer calibration :), but due to the print fan this part is not visible.

I came out well enough and I was able to assemble the printer correctly.

This is how the printer looks now and I did a better job on the first layer calibration 🙂

Is the silver filament you used the PLA that was included with the kit?

PLA might have issues with the temperatures of the hotend (the original one is made from ABS). You should contact support, I'm pretty sure they'll send you a replacement part. Your own part should work for now, but you might get issues long run.

Edit: I consider this an excellent story to showcase what's so nice behind the RepRap Idea. 😀

Hi, just an Update: My printer has now the original Prusa cover in orange. 🙂

Mario: Yes you are right. I wrote to them as soon I had searched the whole kit contents without success. The support also told me that I could run in trouble with PLA.

Prusa sent me a cover as fast as they could. Thanks for that!

I checked the PLA cover after removing: It looks like new, however I printed nothing so far with temps over 220ºC.

And yes, the RepRap idea rocks. Without been able to download the STL, I would have had a sad weekend. 😉
