how to get gcode files onto the sd-card?

i have just finished building my prusa i3 mk2s kit. everything went fine but now i am stuck with a simple thing. how do i get gcode files onto the sdcard? 🙂

my windows 10 pc doesn't recognize the sdcard. what file system does it use?

(my printer is in a different room so i would prefer if i didn't need to use the usb cable.)

Hi Thomas

I do not know why your PC dont see the SD card but browse on the forum and the web for Octoprint. This seems like a good solution, im considering this instead of moving the SD card back and fourth between the computer and printer.

Octoprint is an excellent solution; been using it on 2 printers for a couple of years and it just works. Controlling the printer from my phone when I am out is a huge advantage for me.

but you need to mention that there are some risks with octoprint as well (which could be fixed by increasing timeout settings).
furthermore i've read a report here at the forum, that printing the same .gcode through octoprint delivered a print with worse quality than the direct print through SD-Card, started from the little lcd2004 module.

personally i use octoprint only to stream the endoscope camera at the printhead of my MK2 because it happened two or three times here that the raspberry lost connection or crashed, and the ongoing prints ended up into the bin.

dem inscheniör is' nix zu schwör...

That issue is resolved by setting the minimum segment length and maximum nodes per second in the slicer. 😉

I use a wireless SD card - FlashAir

They are not cheap but it does mean I can drag and drop (or select) gcode from my desktop PC to an icon and they are wirelessly copied to the card in the printer - saves having to keep taking the card out and works well?
