Heater Cartridge Wire Snap

Hi guys! I'm fairly new to 3D printing, have had the MK2 for roughly 3 months and ran into this issue.

While attempting to remove the extruder assembly to deal with a clog, I must have used too much force and snapped a wire from the heater cartridge. (picture below)

How can I solve this issue (will a solder job fix it or would I have to get a new heater cartridge)?

Many thanks!

Re: Heater Cartridge Wire Snap

usually a solder job won't do the trick, because after the first "heat up" of the cartridge, it'll unsolder itself again.
that's why the wires are usually crimped or even welded.
and after having a look at your picture, there's nothing left where you eventually may have soldered the wire to.

simplest thing would be to replace the whole wired cartridge with a new one. if you are patient, you can get them quite cheap from china.
through eBay you can get 12V/40W cartridges for about 1€ each... and they'll do the job quite well at our prusa, even so E3D recommends 30W ones (but i guess that's a little bit of protectionism for their own cartridges, there are no explanations that convinced me not to use 40W cartridges).

by the way: to use pictures inside your postings, always attach them as *.JPG file to your post and "place" the attachement inline.
don't link to picture storage services, cause they usually store the pictures only temporary... and all the posts here should be used as knowledge base even in the future.

What does 'place inline' do in addition to just attaching the pictures?

when you write a post and want to use a picture inside the post (between some lines of text), you can place your cursor at the location inside the text where you want the picture getting displayed and press the "place inline" button for the attachement.

otherwise all the pictures are attached at the end of the post... in the order you did load them up.

I stopped using the inline picture function because on another forum the pictures ended up in the text, and then again at the end, but in reverse order.

Is there an advantage wrt longevity of the posts and it's pictures if the 'inline' function is used?

no, as long you attached the pictures as file (instead of linking to a picture service).
