First layer won't stick

Hello all,

So I calibrate everything and have done it multiple times, I have run the V2 Calibration and it prints a layer on the front left corner of the print bed and it looks fine at first, then it starts to look worse, then it goes to the middle and sticks a little bit then after about a box or two it doesn't stick at all and it get super thin. I have read all over the forums watched the 18 month old videos from Prusa and nothing works. To top it all off I'm running V2 calibration again and the Live z somehow went to -900 (I never went below -650 because i am super paranoid) and i think it scratched my heated board. I bought mine preassembled but had to factory reset because it was left in a different language when I received it. The PLA never stuck to the board except on the front right before it went to the middle to run. I tried calibration surface 75x75 but that didn't help because it never sticks, anywhere from 0 to -650. Any thought or ideas?? Really at my wits end

💡 before using my 75x75mm calibration sheet, it would be a good idea to read the thread from beginning to the end, to understand what's going on with it.
➡ you'll probably come to the conclusion that you have to lower the z-live adjustment level even more (maybe beyond -1.000). as far as i know, the firmware limits this value to max. -9.999).

❓ what's the heigth distance between your nozzle tip and the tip of the pinda at your assembly ?

About .8 the size of the credit card. I did read multiple threads all the way through. Yours is great for fine tuning. I will add some pictures of what -950 did to my board. The first picture you can see it the second picture shows the difference between the beginning quality when the v2 calibration places filament on the front end of the board then moved to the middle and changes to super thin. shouldn't this be uniform?

I would suggest to slow things down to 50% speed when you're going to do the v2calibration.gcode and do live adjust z there slowly

💡
ok, another way to find a decent live z-adjust level:

1. set the live z-adjust to 0.000
2. go to the calibration menue and select "Auto home".
3. the nozzle shouldn't touch the printbed right now ! if it does: look at the note below. put a clean sheet of paper under the (cleaned) nozzle.
4. you should be able to move the sheet at the surface of the printbed without the nozzle touching it, if not: look at the note below.
5. now go to the settings menue and choose "Live adjust Z".
6. lower the value until you notice that the tip of the nozzle touches the paper. you can feel it quite well when moving the paper under the nozzle.
7. add +0.050 to the value and you've got your first value from which you can proceed optimizing.

➡ note: if you aren't able to move the sheet of paper at point #4 or the tip of the nozzle touches the surface already (@ #3): lower the tip of the pinda probe a little bit and repeat the complete procedure.
unfortunately the probes from prusa differ in sensitivity. the one that came with my kit triggers at 1.6mm above the calibration point, the one i ordered as a spare part triggers only at 0.7mm above the calibration point (really deaf thing).

Re: First layer won't stick

Hello everybody,

Thanks for all the help but I'm pretty sure why it won't work. The screw on the front left heat bed won't tighten down. And I'm pretty sure that's my issue, I got the right and back side to stick but as soon as it went to the left or front it wouldn't . prusa asked me to tighten them and I believe that's the issue.

If the front left screw on the left will not tighten down it may be because of the hole does not line up. This may be because the frame with the bearing attached is not the right way round or up . Check the build manual for the correct orientation as the frame only aligns properly when in one orientation.

I did not build this the company did. If it doesn't line it would even hold together and that screw would just fall out.
