Filament Breaking
I have a roll of PLA Filament that is 75% used...
the first three prints were quite big, and used about 230 grams of filament, no problems,
then I have printed three 50gram items and each time the filament has snapped about 200mm above the extruder...
AFTER the print finished...
The prints have all been left to complete without watching.. so i have no idea whether this occurs when the extruder homes on the X axis or before hand
the filament has been open about a week,
the remaining roll is relatively small in diameter and the filament seems tightly formed to the roll shape. it also seems brittle...
when the filament breaks, the roll end re winds around the roll.
Any ideas
Joan

Re: Filament Breaking
Hi Joan
This happened to me with a couple of spools of cheap Chinese filament. Since then, I have only used better quality filament and never had the problem again.
Incidentally, the filament this happened with was very inconsistent in diameter, ranging from 1.62mm to 1.78mm.

Re: Filament Breaking
Thanks Peter,
the two questions were different filaments, but the answer is likely to be equally good...
