Extruder Thermistor Problem

Hi,

i finished yesterday the building process of my Prusai3 so i start the Calibration part.

I had some problems during preheating because when i start "preheating" the display reload and show some strange characters, i figure out there's a short circuit in heated bed, i removed the skrews and remount the bed and now is working.

So, i selected preheating again and the bed and the extruder started heating and the extruder fan started working above 50deg. So everything seemed ok.

I moved to next step. After selecting "home axis" for calibration, The axis starts moving to 0,0,0 but I noticed there's a problem with the z-axis endstop so to avoid damage i switch off the power.

When i turned it on there was a MIN_TEMP error, so i reboot the system and after a while the error disappear, i started preheating again and now the extruder temperature was not changing. It was fixed to 21deg.

After a while some smoke went out from extruder zone. Worried about that i unmounted the extruder, thinking there was a problem with thermistor, i remove the skrew and the thermistor breaks in half.

What can i do??

Please help me, i would like to use the printer for some christmas gifts but now is broken! I was wondering to buy a new thermistor and try to sold it in place of the broken one but i think the pond would melt when extruder is heating.

🙄

Re: Extruder Thermistor Problem

Hi Robert

Welcome to the forum, sorry to hear of your difficulties.

Replacement thermistors are here: http://e3d-online.com/Spares/100k-Ohm-NTC-Thermistor-Semitec

You are correct in that these should not be soldered and ferrules to crimp the connection are here: http://e3d-online.com/Spares/Ferrules-for-joining-wires-Pack-of-10 and fibreglass sleves here: http://e3d-online.com/Spares/Fibreglass-Sleeving

You could possibly find replacements on eBay, but I prefer to purchase originals.

You also need to check the connection on the RAMBo; it sounds as though it may have been a tad intermittent.
