Extruder thermistor problem

I have problem with what I think not working thermistor on extruder

I followed manual, started preheating and fan was not starting because temperature on thermistor was around 20 deg, after 2-3mins I checked extruder temperature by closing hand and it was super hot already, a few seconds after it started smoking ...

I followed suggestions found here, swapped thermistor with heat bed, removed plug to heat extruder so it does not smoke and fan started correctly when heat bed hit 50 deg. (it was thinking it's extruder)

I attach photo of connections

I'm aware of detached connectors for extruder and heat bed in the back, I was testing

Re: Extruder thermistor problem

Guys could someone reply me?

I hate to say but having almost ready printer that does not work is quite frustrating

I wasted few hours to drive around city (not to mention fuel) to find replacement for 100k thermistor but it's not possible to buy it in Poland

It's probably 1$ part that is holding me from finishing my build

Re: Extruder thermistor problem

Did you possibly connect the thermistor to wrong pins? If so - it might be damaged and you would need a new one.
If not maybe you have the polarity wrong... (try switching the red and white cable (turn the connector around)) but I doubt that the polarity matters in this case....

Either way I don't know what to do 🙁

Re: Extruder thermistor problem

You can't connect it the other way around.

The thermistor is exactly 100K Semitec 104GT2 NTC thermistor, you can use only this exact type. Otherwise you have to reconfigure the firmware.

We offered to send one spare.

Unfortunately I am out of the office, so my team is going to take care of this.

Re: Extruder thermistor problem

Thanks

I spent some time investigating it and even bought replacement for reprap but it was too big, probably previous generation or something.

After wrapping cables from extruder in spiral wrap it was hard to know what is what since I was missing color heat shrinks in my kit.

I think it's very likely that people connect them wrong but I checked by color types, diameters so it was ok.

Thermistor could be damaged during assembly or shipping, after all it's just tiny glass bulb. I broke my bigger replacement today. It was working with electronic outside of extruder, just broke when I was tightening screw.

I hope spare thermistor will arrive quickly because having almost assembled printer that I can't use next to me is not fun 🙁

Thanks again

I told Jakub to ship you a new prebuilt nozzle to get you printing asap.

I finished yesterday first bigger print, camera holder for quadcopter

unfortunately camera doesn't fit 😀

I should read comments first http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:884620

printer is magic, the only thing I would improve is stronger heatbed, it takes forever to reach 100 degrees 🙁

Re: Extruder thermistor problem

I have been trying to contact you guys for over a week. I get one worthless response stating the obvious, that my thermistor and heating block are toast. I paid over $1000 to have a fully assembled and calibrated printer that is ready to print as soon as I receive it. Let me tell you, after my printer making it halfway through the print before all these problems started I have been anything but pleased. I ordered this printer for prototyping and we are now way behind schedule and I can’t even get someone from prusa to even respond to an email. I need a new extruder because the one I have is junk, it simply isn’t working. I paid the extra money to not have to deal with this mess yet here I am right in the middle of it.

Josef I hope you are aware of the way your employees are running such a great company you’ve built. I would appreciate a response as soon as possible.
