Enclosure size?

Just bought my 1st 3D printer an hour ago (Prusa i3 kit funnily enough) and now need to prep. I'm looking house it in my loft which isn't the cleanest so building a case of sorts seems like a good idea. Could you give me some dimensions so I can get something ready for when it arrives? I may advance onto multi materials one day so if you could make allowances for this extra kit would be great. Other than that any warnings or advice on this particular task would also be appreciated. Cheers.

Re: Enclosure size?

Hello Tonyptah!

An enclosure is also heating the whole machine and it's parts (PSU don't like heat, extruder the same). I would recommend a housing for the filament if it is dusty.

Regarding the size of the machine you may find many builds with parts from IKEA that fits the machine...

Re: Enclosure size?

Since you just ordered your printer, you were just at the Prusa web page http://www.prusa3d.com which clearly states the exterior dimensions on the second to last bullet of the description.

If you search enclosure on this forum you will find dozens and dozens of different designs. And what people like and don't like about them.

As Henrik points out, heating the machine is a mixed bag. It can help with ABS but can also cause clogs if the heat-break gets to warm, and the filament softens in that part of the extruder.

OK, for some reason, Henrik has today decided to revive old posts, in most cases over 6 weeks old.

I would imagine that nobody would wait for that length of time for a solution.
