Re: Calibration Issue

Mason

Sorry, I missed your calibration question. Patience and persistence is the answer, but get the other things sorted and then we can discuss this...

Re: Calibration Issue

No problem, thanks for all the help guys. I think everything is going well now. I am just working on finding correct temps for printing PLA, as well as other things like fans on or off, what to use on the bed for adhesion, and gcode settings in Slic3r.

So far I am using the provided Kores glue stick, 220 nozzle, 67 heat bed. Both part and extruder fans are on. This is the best combination I have found so far, along with a 10mm brim. Not sure if I should try a raft or not. My first layer is the only one that seems to be a little messed up (not sticking properly). I have no warping though so that's good. I'm getting there !

Re: Calibration Issue

Hi Mason

If you are having problems getting the first layer to stick, there are potentially 2 reasons why.

1. First layer needs to be at least 0.25mm

2. Calibration. Ot the bed/glass is warped and not level.

When calibrating, have you also checked in the middle of the bed and other places? It may be that by turning the glass over, you will get a flatter surface.

After calibration, you may want to lower the gap. If you turn all 4 adjusters in the same direction by about 30 degrees, that will change the gap by about 0.04mm, which may help force the first layer onto the bed.

I use blue painter's tape for PLA, which has 2 advantages:

1. It help with keeping the bed level

2. Bed temperature is lower.

I also think that it is cheaper than glue stick, but the disadvantage is that the bottom of the print is not as smooth.

On blue tape, I generally print at 215 for the first layer and 205 for the rest, with the part fan at between 60 and 80 % over 0.6mm layer height.
