Borders lifting off

Hi guys. So I've been printing for the last days since I have my printer and On the very start it didn't happen but this last few days it's been happening constantly.

The frontal borders of the figures I print are lifting off but the others are never. If I print a few figures at the same time only the frontal one lifts off.

I believe my printer isn't calibrated unpropperly and I've been looking in many places for the possible reason. I still don't understand it.

I'm using PLA which I print at 222º. I Always start at 50% and after 1st layer is done I raise it to 100%.

I add a few pictures for you to understand it better since my english isn't perfect.

If you have more questions about the issue I'l be glad to answer.

Thank you!

Hi. I just checked all 3 knifes and realised that the ones on the back side also have the same problem but not as much as the frontal one. They don't lift off no a vissible way but still do.

Do you have any idea about the reason?

Re: Borders lifting off

My understanding is the initial layer should be the warmest layer for adhesion with following layers being same temp or cooler. I have noticed in many of the pruda mk 2 settings the initial layer is the hottest.

So you believe that might be the problem.

The matter is that I don't understand why the one of the front always lifts off a lot but the others don't. I believe probably there is another issue.

What else could I do in order to improove the adherence?

Re: Borders lifting off

If you're not already doing so, feel with your hand on the bed to see if there's anything obviously sticking up or otherwise not smooth. After that, wipe down the bed with Isopropyl alcohol, or pure acetone, or similar solvent before printing. There may be some grease on the bed that's preventing the print from sticking.

Be sure the bed is heated up (via the front panel). You can also lay a straight edge on the bed to make sure it's absolutely flat from side to side and front to back. (Although the XYZ calibration should have confirmed that.) Also, try a different spool of PLA (if you have one) and see if the problem persists. Hope this helps!

Re: Borders lifting off

Apparently it's called warping.

I have found different solutions.

1. Cleaning it better.
2. Lowering a bit the temperature
3. Printing 1st layer hotter(as jeff said).
4. Checking if the surface is really flat.
5. Purchasing a glass bed(apparently it's better)
6. Usong Kapton tape(people say it's the best option for perfect adherence). But I'l purchase the glass bed anyway cuz it's too much work. They also speak about sanding the kapton tape in order to improve the adherence.
7. Reducing infill so it affects less the structure while cooling it.
8. Printing on a raft
9. Adding "Mouse ears" to the design corners(small plastic round things which make it less likely to lift off): https://www.makerbot.com/media-center/2011/02/25/mouse-ears-defeat-corner-curling-monster
10. Adding a thermal wall to the design: http://hydraraptor.blogspot.com.es/2010/09/some-corners-like-it-hot.html

If you have any more suggestions I'l be glad to hear them. I hope i will solve the problem soon and start printing money ^^

Cheers guys!

Re: Borders lifting off

I am also noticing this.

After a week or two of printing I am starting to have this lifting problem.

I've put it down to either

1 Scratches/wear on the print bed from pulling prints off or the bed being dirty. Im going to give it a full clean down with acetone. I wipe the bed every print with cleaning wipes (designed for glasses) but this may not be doing the job.

2 Improper storage of my filament. I have just left it on the spool and its possible it has absorbed moisture and is causing problems.

A glass bed won't work on the MK2. The PEI sheet is fine for PLA, you don't need kapton tape or anything like that. (My prints sometimes stick so bad that I have risked damaging the PEI sheet a couple times.)

Re: Borders lifting off

💡 one of the major key factors to get a good adhesion between first layer and printing surface (pei sheet) is the correct live adjustment z level.
for beginners it's very hard to find the right value, especially when using the v2calibration.gcode.
so i recommend to use this procedure to find the best live adjust z level (give the calibration_surface_PLA_75x75@200um_v4.gcode a try) *.
if you then use acetone and ipa to clean your pei sheet after each print, nothing should lift off from the bed during the print... at least no pla or abs.

🙄 *) if the procedure was helpful, please leave a comment at the mentioned thread... just to keep it a-live (at the top of the threads).
