Bed crashes, despite calibrations
I have just completed building my MK2S kit and I have begun to run the calibration tests, but I continue to get bed crashes. I have the PINDA probe installed <1mm away from the print bed (about .85mm I think), and the machine has no troubles finding the position of the calibration point on the bed. Basically, just the auto homing works. The nozzle stops at an appropriate height above the bed, and the red LED on the probe is off, indicating it has sensed the bed. However, when I attempt to do a Z or XYZ calibration, the probe senses the point and signals this with the LED turning off, but then keeps going about 4mm below that point, ramming the nozzle and the probe into the bed.
What am I doing wrong?? I have the PINDA at an appropriate position, I have confirmed that the probe itself is functioning properly, and I've even updated the firmware. Please help me! 😥
Re: Bed crashes, despite calibrations
The XYZ Calibration does not sense the PINDA position, but moves to a known distance then searches for the points.
If your machine is not made correctly, that distance will be wrong. There are two causes that have been documented on these pages:
1) Extruder not installed correctly, and it is low by about 1cm, which causes the crashes.
2) The little stops at the top of the Z screws is installed upside down, thus making the "crashed" position lower by about 1cm.
If you post photos of your extruder assembly, and the top of your Z axis, (or compare those to the assembly instructions) we can help point you in the right direction.
