a treefrog issue

Hi at all,
I expect that I travel with a fine tune z level of 0.760 mm (i've got my best first layer).
Why do my treefrog finish with this ugly little holes? Other prints, especially boxed items, seem to be very good. Also I can not find obvious printing differences between 0.20 mm NORMAL preset of slicer and 0.15 OPTIMAL. Somebody can give me some suggestion about it?
thanks

I think you're underextruding. I do not think this is related to your first layer / live-Z offset. Looks like there's even some sort of reoccuring pattern to it. My guess would be:

If you're still using the original filament holder that came with the printer: it is known to cause excessive friction - which can result in underextruded spots like this.

The difference between 0,2 and 0,15 layers is in deed hard to see. with the naked eye...

Hope this helps a little

Oh thanks Stephan. Im using a non prusa pla and original holder. Where I Can substitute or print a better holder?
I notice a friction and scrape in spool of pla now that I excedeed 50% of material.
Thx

Re: a treefrog issue

just to mention:
printing the treefrog is a good test to check your first layer.... because if the first layer isn't set up properly, the frog tends to "pop off" from the pei sheet during the print.
because this didn't happen at your site, your first layer is proper aligned.

the holes you've mentioned are a sign of underextrusion (as Stephan already mentioned) and maybe you've to tweak the temperatures a little bit (lower ?).

if you want to spend 43 minutes of printing time, you can try my s3d sliced version of the little treefrog (attached here).

dem inscheniör is' nix zu schwör...

Re: a treefrog issue

Hi jeff, thanks for the answer. I'm still in war with frof. I adjusted the pinda again and managed to bring the live z-offset to -0.640 instead of my previous result of -0.760 mm. Your calibration surface give me excellent results but the frog continues to cause problems. I have reduced the nozzle temperature to 185 degrees and speeds low to 70% but continue to leave many holes, even worse than when I used -0.760 mm.
I also had a problem that I had never encountered before. The extruder practically sowed the wire before it came to the nozzle, jamming everything ... What could all depend on? ...The extruder seems to run well, it has jammed the thread only with the frog at 0.05 mm (two times with and w/o low temp).
I have also problem with first layer of frog because sometimes the acceleration of the extruder takes me off the front's paws of frog and I need to apply glue on the surface to avoid this problem.

Re: a treefrog issue

185°C is really low! Too low in my opinion.
Which filament are you using?

I agree 185 is very low. 210 is better for PLA. It also looks like you have the tensioners set too tight. They should be just engaging the filament, not pushing so hard that the filament is crippled by the stepper. Mine is set at 14mm without a filament in place (it moves when a filament is in.)

Any advices given are offered in good faith. It is your responsibility to ensure that by following my advice you do not suffer or cause injury, damage or loss. If you solve your problem, please post the solution…

Yes but It was only a try. The eating of filament happened one time also at 210 degrees. The filament is pla 1.75 made in eu not branded prusa but with same sprocket.
I think that I was too close with nozzle and the filament unable to get down was consumed by extruder.
Im re adjusting Z level with jeff's calibration but I can not find a perfect level. Sometimes it's perfect 650 other times it seems too close and so swing between 600 and 650 without finding a level that suits me in more attempts.

Aaron, in fact my tensioners are set to 13 mm (lenght of spring) but with filament Inside. I try to set them without filament.
Thx

Re: a treefrog issue

I too had the same problem after having my castle move and completely clog the extruder.
What happened was the heat wire of the bed came loose and the bed got too hot and worped the castle and started causing problems. After the meltdown my frog looked like yours and had to replace the extrude.

Problem fixed.
