What is the fastest infill? Is Honeycomb the slowest?
Some of my models don't need strength and I want to use the fastest infill. Is Rectilinear the fastest?
It seems like Honeycomb is really slow because the print head makes many moves... but maybe it just seems slow because I am watching it.
Re: What is the fastest infill? Is Honeycomb the slowest?
❓ what do you mean precisely with "fastest" and "slowest", during slicing or during print ?
💡 during print i only noticed little difference between the infill methods. but at least simplify3d tells me at some objects some slightly different estimated printing times.
curiously the honeycomb selection has been estimated a few minutes faster than the linear rectangular one yesterday (at a print over 4 hours). but as you may have seen from other threads here, these estimations often differ from the real printing time.

Re: What is the fastest infill? Is Honeycomb the slowest?
Regarding fastest, during printing the object.
Re: What is the fastest infill? Is Honeycomb the slowest?
Fastest infill is no infill. 😉
Re: What is the fastest infill? Is Honeycomb the slowest?
So true... but seriously, many times I go with zero infill and just increase the perimeter values for strength.
Re: What is the fastest infill? Is Honeycomb the slowest?
💡 now i just sliced an object (modification of this damper) with different infill patterns and simplify3d.
infill percentage was set to 40%, and layer height @ 200µm (=normal).
➡ s3d now estimates it as follows:1h35 - fast honeycomb
1h35 - full honeycomb
1h37 - rectlinear
1h38 - wiggle
1h43 - grid
so the honeycomb brothers win by a nose, but not really big differences...

Re: What is the fastest infill? Is Honeycomb the slowest?
But maybe they don't give the same infill strength at the same % or speed.
I think one of the most efficient is "cubic" from prusa's slic3r... you only have straight lines at each layer. I don't use anything else after they've added it.
Re: What is the fastest infill? Is Honeycomb the slowest?
I've also notice that cubic in PE slic3r seems really fast... but only in casual observations, I have not measured with a timer.
Re: What is the fastest infill? Is Honeycomb the slowest?
Try running your slicing tests on different models. You may find the results vary.
As much as I like the aesthetics of honeycomb with clear filament, X-Y movements are too herky-jerky. I generally use the grid settings so the extruder moves in smooth diagonal passes. Different strokes.
Re: What is the fastest infill? Is Honeycomb the slowest?
Beside the speed:
On PLA I prefer "Cubic". On PETG I prefer "Honeycomb" because PETG tends to build up where the other infills cross previously layed down lines.

Regarding the Honeycomb for PETG, that is an interesting observation. We have to let Jindra test it, thanks for the tip. Jindra is our print expert guy, who tunes the Slic3r settings.
