surface structure not smooth
Hi guys,
today I was printing a smartphone case and have a couple of visible surface problems on this one. I am not sure where this comes from and hope to get some help by the experts 🙂
As you can see in the attachments there are visible surface problems. It is hard to show this with black filament, but I hope you can see the problem.
I printed this one with black PETG from extrudr with nozzle at 210°C and bed at 80°C. Sliced it with Slic3er at 0.3 layer height and 25% infill. Can cubic infill cause this? For me it looks like you can see the infill structure on the outside surface.
I was thinking about changing from cubic to honeycomp infill and maybe increase retraction a bit. May this help?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: surface structure not smooth
If this is with 2 perimeters then change to 3 perimeters. I had a similiar issue and it was because I didn't have enough perimeters.
Re: surface structure not smooth
Thanks lee,
that's a good idea. Yes, the default settings for 0.3 (derived from 0.35) are 2 shells. Definitely going to try it with 3 shells!

Re: surface structure not smooth
Okay, thank you again, lee.
I changed the amount of shells to 4 (may be a bit too much, but just to be sure), and this time it came out much better. Not perfect, but that's because of the model.
Still learning every day 🙂

Re: surface structure not smooth
furthermore you can reduce the "overlap", which may cause that infill will reach into the perimeter and disturb its smoothness.
