strange layer shifting

Hello guys,

I have now read a couple of times about layer shifting but none of them appeared like mine did.
I had to start the print of the Mario box a couple of time because of some bad adhesion issues.
I then decided to raise from 100 micron to 200 and the adhesion problem was gone and it sticked well to the bed... (if some has a explanation for this please let me know :D)

I had to aboard the first try (with 200M) because of some very strange printing.

?dl=0

I was really wondering how this is was possible.
I started over again and the first layer was printing like it should so I let it print.

After nearly 20h of printing I came back to this.

?dl=0

How?? Just how?
Everything is looking good except of the final layer.
How can it be shifted that much. And if there is an issue why is it the only layer?

I really appreciate any tips and tricks because I don't want to ruin another huge print that way.

Thank you all in advance!

KR
Janik

Re: strange layer shifting

seems that something has blocked your x-carriage at the end of the print.
simply check that the cable harness doesn't interfere with the frame or anything else at the height of your box.
and have a look at the filament spool, if the filament is tangled somehow, this might hinder the carriage movement as well.

btw.: you don't have a cat, do you ?

Hi Jeff,

thanks for your reply.
No nothing is blocking and also the filament is straight and flawless like it should.
But isn't it strange that the layer itself was printed perfect to its outlines but only shifted!?

And no I don't have a cat. Why are you asking? 😀

😀 curious pets might interfere with the printer as well, especially when you're not looking 😆
and especially cats like it warm and snug....

Re: strange layer shifting

Looks like the problem appeared again 🙁

?dl=0

In the first picture it was shifted upwards.
In the second (box) it was shifted to the left and now it was shifted upwards again.

I was sitting next to the printer the whole time and have watched him during his failure.
There was nothing blocking or hitting in any way - it printed "normal" (well expect of the shifting of course)

It was a new model and sliced with Slic3r to 200 micron.

Does the gcode may help anyone?

As always thank you in advance!

Re: strange layer shifting

do you run the actual firmware (3.0.10-rc1) with the loose pulleye test ?
it looks as if you've got such a loose pulleye, or at least a problem that shows similar behaviour.

this might only affect your print when some of the accelerations are to high for your assembly, then the pulleye might slip or, if the force is to strong for your assembly (friction, bearings, belt tension), the steppers might skip steps.

try to reduce the xy-movement speed ! in simplify3d you'll find them in the "other" tab, at slic3r in <print settings> -> <speed> -> <speed for non print moves>.

---

if the problem vanishes when you've reduced the movement speeds, you should try to find which component or misalignment caused the issue.

Haven't known that 3.0.10 was already released...

Now that it's Friday I finaly had the time to update to 3.0.10 and was fascinated how fast and easy it was 😯
Run the selftest and as you suggested I got an error which says that I have a loose pulley on the Y axis.

I'll fix this and keep you updated.
Thanks so far.

Re: strange layer shifting

I've tighten the pulley and the selftest succeeded.
I was shocked how stiff it needs to be compared with the X pulley.

It was also necessary to correct the role and tight those screws.

But for now it's looking good and printing fine again.
Hopefully this will do it for a while.

The new loose pulley feature in 3.0.10 is very handy!

Re: strange layer shifting

maybe I am blind but I cant find 3.0.10

I looked in the prusa3d.com, Prusaprinters.org and in the GitHub and it all says 3.0.9
