Re: problems side shift

Hi Markus

There are plenty of posts and solutions to this question on these forums; quick answer is to ensure you have firmware version 2.2.3 or later and switch the print mode from "Quiet" to "High Power".

There are a few other possible solutions, but try this one first and if you still have problems, post again.

Re: problems side shift

Interesting. I was about to post a query with the same issue, which occurred while using Quiet mode. I'll retry using full power.

Paolo

Personally I never use quiet mode. I believe that it can be used on some printers for some prints. And I know that's not very specific...

It seems to work fine on machines that are perfectly built and run-in and for slow prints where not many large movements are required.

But that is mainly guesswork; it obviously works on the printers in use by PR and their in-house testing obviously shows some advantages, otherwise they would not have bothered implementing it.

Thank you Peter,
I'll do some test on it to see what happen.
I agree with you... if such feature is present, means something it fullfils.
Ciao,
Paolo

Re: problems side shift

Hi all,

in my case I never activated the Power mode, the printing is close to the bedroom and my wife will not like at all to have more noise during printing, which occurs obviously during the nights 😉

However, I never encounter side shift in any manner. Maybe it's because my printer is still quite new, and I spend some time to ensure the difference of level under the frame corner is very low ?

Just wondering what could explain the best the behavior difference.

What sounds strange in the pictures here (especially on Mark's picture) is that the side shift seems to happen at the same time on X *and* Y axis at the same time. Could this be caused by a temporary power supply fluctuation ? Like a micro cut due to the electricity provider ? Then maybe "High Power" mode is more tolerant to such micro cut ?

I'm like Jon Snow, I know nothing.

Hi Chistophe,
So you print mainly in quiet mode and no problems occur? Good to know!
I would like anyway to understand the difference between quiet and high power modality (i mean when and why)

Re: problems side shift

@Paolo me too. I tune the stepper motors on some printers, ie my Mini Fabrikator. They run very hot, but I get brilliant prints.

The quiet mode of our Mk1 Prusa I3 affects my prints how?

Re: problems side shift

Just to clarify, I get no side shift issues with my genuine Prusa I3 Mk1 running in quiet mode. It prints overnight and does not wake my wife. I get fantastic prints. Some of the best I have ever had.
