Printing Thin Shells
Any and all suggestions on the following much appreciated. I am attempting to print something similar to an egg shell - see attachments. It is actually a wheel spat for a model aircraft. I am printing in ABS at 50% size while I experiment to save time and filament. I am pretty happy with the results other than the 'horizontal' surfaces on the rear underside and top. I have used supports off the bed but the rear underside pulls away from those - I guess as the ABS cools and shrinks. This leaves a very 'rough' finish. The top stays in contact with the supports but still shows significant layer steps. How can I improve these two aspects?
I am using the generic ABS settings in Pursa Control, layer height 'Optimal' hot end at 255° bed at 100° and no enclosure around the printer. At 50% scale the wall thickness is only 0.5mm - pretty ambitious perhaps with a 0.4mm nozzle.
