Newbie hoping for some help!

Hi everyone!

I was considering an mk2 to print some parts for a prototype of a design I am working on. I was hoping I can take the design from http://imgur.com/a/0bW8r this album and print the corners with tabs to attach them to flat sheets. I know this design is quite large and might take a very long time to print, but having the printer would help us print several other parts for the prototype as well and be cheaper than ordering the parts form a print house. Is this something that might be feasible for an mk2? I don't mind splitting the corners into segments as well since I am sure they will likely need to be split. The design is 24" long x 20" tall x 12" deep.

Thanks so much for any help or advice you can offer! It is very appreciated,

Kirk

Your biggest problem is the size: your design is 24x20x12, the MK2s maximum print size is 9,8x8,3x8. So yes, you'll need to print in segments. I am not sure what you mean with "printing the corners" only. With a sufficient wall thickness and proper part orientation to minimize overhangs while printing, this should print fine.

Well, I printed this aquarium surround and lid (60 x 40 cm):

(wifey just did a water change so the top is a tad wet...)

With a strip of 72 WS2812B LEDs controlled by Arduino (automatic day/night with sun/moon tracking).

So your object should be printable in parts and it should be possible if designed properly to almost hide the seams.

Thanks for the help! That is very reassuring, I think I am going to pull the trigger on one. By printing the corners what I meant was that it seems it would save a lot of print time to use ABS sheets and cut them to size, then print the rounded corners and attach them to the sheets using tabs on the inside so that I am not printing the long flat pieces if that makes sense. Thanks again! Really appreciate the advice,

Kirk
