Layer shift midprint
Hi everyone, im a newbie. Recently i had a print shift the layer midprint. I had increased the print speed just prior. This has happened twice now. I used slic3r to convert to gcode and the part was a commonly downloaded part, the lack table leg extensions. Can anyone tell me if me increasing the print speed to 150% when printing at 40mm/s would cause this defect?
Re: Layer shift midprint
Hi all,
I've been building and playing with 3D printers for the last 5 years. In general I've been very happy with my MK3 (built from a kit) but at least once every 5 prints I get significant layer shift on either the x or y axis. In several cases this is the 3 or 4th time I've printed these models using the same g-code and printer settings. So nothing is changed between prints - except that some fail. I have not considered reducing print speeds from the std settings given that many of these models prints successfully print successfully quite often.
Re: Layer shift midprint
Hard to diagnose without images or slip causation. I have an MK2S so can only speak to FDM/FFF in general.
To newbie; yes, likely. Slic3r PR may have Linear Advance as default, also as default, I've found the speed a little too fast causing crash-detachments where prior firmware Slic3r pair without Linear Advance was fine. This was ABS which you will someday find is quite challenging to work with.
To veteran; hoping that your MK3's performance inconsistency can be resolved without international shipping, were you able to successfully print on another printer? Can you eliminate curl-crash as a culprit? Is your printer on Quiet mode perhaps? Just in case, have you obviated belt obstruction, ensures smooth axis range of motions, stabilized printing conditions with a gust guard, thermally controlled room or an enclosure? A guess from the blue would be MK3's stepper resistance tuning causing premature crash recovery? I have heard the MK3 can read out if recovery was activated for a print session, if this happens again and you are not there, it could be worth a look?
I am spit balling but hopefully an MK3 owner can chime in as there is far too much automated on the MK3 to narrow down without access to the model, G-code or your printer.
