Impatient PLA

I had successful results with ABS filament and I wanted to try PLA next so I replaced the filament with a PLA filament and prepared the system accordingly (used preheating for PLA this time instead) and while I was printing an iPhone cover, the incomplete body started to get rid of the glass surface from the edges (as if it was warping) and after a short time, it got separated from the surface completely. Hence, causing a misprinting for the remaining of the model.

Do you have any suggestions to fix this? Should I use more glue stick for PLA or should I use a different juice (instead of ABS juice)?

Re: Impatient PLA

PLA is usually more forgiving to printbed preparation. You can use ABS juice but PLA has many more options you can try and are easier.

- Plain glue stick without the ABS juice at all.

OR

- Painters tape taped to the glass surface (don't forget to recalibrate 💡 ) and wiped with plain acetone or isopropyl alcohol to remove the waxy top side before the fist print.

OR

- Wood glue diluted 1:10 with water and applied to plain glass.

Hi again,

I tried the first option (Plain glue stick one). I also added one drop of oil as you suggested.

Now, I was able to finish the iphone6 case without a big problem. However, there were some minor defects on the first layer only. After the first layer, other layers were printed very accurately and smoothly.

Do you have any idea why it is happening, and do you have any suggestions to get rid of this first layer problem?

Thank you.

Hi, the imperfections are easy fix, the distance between nozzle and glass is too small. When there is too much plastic in the first layer, you can see it rolling over itself and causing the ugly pattern. Increase it with the calibration wheels in the corners of the printbed. Let me know how it worked out..
