How can I improve my prints?

Looking for suggestions on improving my prints. Sides are smooth and seem ok, but the top could be more smooth.
I am guessing the one piece I printed wrong and should have been on it's side? That's why the filament messed up?
What settings can I change to try and improve that? Using Slic3r prusa edition.
Extruder and pid tuning has been done already.
It won't let me add more pictures.

should have printed it upside down or with additional support structures, so that there is always a layer on which you can print the next one (you can't print "into the air", you'll always need some kind of support).

to be honest: i've seen worst prints. you can try to increase the number of top layers and do a fine adjustment of the layer width (ususally between 0.40 and 0.48).

to increase the quality of the bottom layer, i see some potential to fine adjust the live z adjustment level.

Not quite true:

Printed without supports.

Re: How can I improve my prints?

yeah, but honestly your support is the previous layer.... at least for a few %.

❗ anyhow: this overhang is awesome when printed at this orientation and without support.
slic3r ?

➡ how does the surface of the overhang looks like (underneath) ?

You realize when the new version of KISS is released we will all want a master class from you on its use. 😀

@Richard, @Jeff - No you won't. The wizard(s) will show you the way...

@Avi - I just happened to mail Jonathan at the right time and explain a few things. Very lucky!

Apparently not. There are currently some issues I am having problems with. Although with the MM upgrade it certainly still works a lot better for me than other slicers.

Re: How can I improve my prints?

Just curious, what are the top 3 things you would say are better in KISS vs Cura or PE Slic3r?

For example, PE Slic3r has variable layer heights. Does KISS have a feature that is hands down much better, or is it just better over alll in your experience?

I noticed from your video that your print some big objects (which are awesome ) and was thinking that maybe KISS does better infill when printing things with a large volume.

Re: How can I improve my prints?

Just curious, what are the top 3 things you would say are better in KISS vs Cura or PE Slic3r?

A couple of things: I have Cura 15.04.6 and 2.3.1, Craftware, Slic3r and KISS 1.5 and 1.6a installed on my PC.

I very rarely use Craftware; last time I did I found it to be quite buggy, but things may have changed.
I used to use Cura 15.04.6 quite often, but the quality wasn't there and top layers often had holes in them (insufficient supporting layers).
I use Slic3r for MM upgrade testing (when I have to); I find the interface very unfriendly and the various settings not particularly intuitive. The GCode it produces is good, but models take longer to print that with other slicers.
Then there is KISS. I am not allowed to discuss many of the alpha features, but here's a list of things I like:
Once set up it is very easy to use and (for me) the interface is very intuitive.
The multi-extruder features are better than any other slicer I have used (by a very long way)
The generated GCodes are generally of good quality and reasonably quick to print
All the new alpha features
Things I don't like about KISS:
It is quite difficult to set up
It is very fussy about models with errors (and there are a lot out there) - it is a lot less tolerant of these errors and can create some wierd effects on the model.

Of course, others will have different opinions, but as a software developer myself, I really do appreciate the work that goes into any of the slicers out there.

Re: How can I improve my prints?

I installed the current release version of KISSlicer but I am not sure where to even start. The terminology used is different (are loops called perimeters by other slicers?) and there are no machines pre-defined. Any suggestion where to start?

Re: How can I improve my prints?

Avi

Yes, with KISS you have the correct terminology. There is only 1 perimeter; the rest are loops.

For the printer, select 5D relative E. Or just download my settings from a recent post to start with (but beware that the settings are for the MM upgrade).

Peter

As usual with this forum software the link doesn't work. Is anyone else having issues with links that don't work and are displaying a "The requested topic does not exist." message?

Hi Peter, now that kisslicer 1.6 final version is here, could you tell us what was this specific tip to have overhangs like this? "Perimeter" last in the "loop order" I guess. But what else ?

Loop1->Perim.

Material tab/Flow Adjust/Cool It's basically a bridging parameter which slows the printing to a volume which can be cooled by the fan.

Fan/Cool = 100%
Flow Adjust/Min = 0.25
Flow Adjust/Cool = 0.75 (or less, but => Min). With a nozzle upgrade, you could increase this. See the pink paths in "Path" view.

A decent fan nozzle helps, but I see you are going down that path already. Hint - you may have to print an intermediate one to use to print a final.
