How are called this kind of gaps?

Hello,

I'm using an mk3, slic3r. pla. 60 bed, 215 nozzle.
My first printer.

As you can see in the image below, there are gaps.

What is the cause? Too much speed, under extrusion? It has a name?

These are the speed settings

Thanks.

Re: How are called this kind of gaps?

I do not know what this type of gap is called, but I had a similar problem with PLA.

As I only produced my first print on April 1, 2018 I have had good success printing once my P.I.N.D.A. probe was finely tuned and the live Z adjustment for PLA was dialed in.

For example, by following the advice of community member JeffJordan in his posting "life adjust Z - my way" I was able to close the gaps.

Re: How are called this kind of gaps?

Hi, so the spots where you are circling aren't related to the gap fill setting in question. In my opinion, it looks like you might be suffering slightly from underextrusion... you could try adjusting the tension upwards slightly in steps on the tension idler and see if that helps you.

The gap fill setting refers to when the inside wall and outside wall are too close to allow for proper infill. I believe that it can also use this compensation if the inside and outside walls are too close to allow for as many perimeters as you've specified (say you wanted 5 outer perimeters and there is a wall on inside of your model that comes too close to an outside wall in your model to allow for both to have 5 perimeters), it will make what walls it can, and then do a zig zag pattern back and forth between those walls to fill it in (effectively making it solid with full infill there), and it refers to the gap fill speed setting to determine how fast the extruder head is going to move during the zig zagging infill motions.
