Help with settings for a smooth seam
Hi everyone,
hoping this will perhaps help others as well. I am trying to get my seams to look smooth but I can't get it working as of now.
I have tried the following settings:
Increase non printing travel speed to 150mm/s
No wiping
No retractions at all
Printing infill before perimeters
Printing External perimeters before internal
Only Retract when crossing perimeters
I have only enabled one of the settings at a time. Best setting was when using just no wiping.
Is it even possible to get the seem at the front right to be invisible?

random tends to hide a seem.
nearest might keep it aligned more because it is a circular layer getting smaller as it goes up.
rear moves the seam to the backside of the model to hide it more.
Spiral vase option?
you could run a layer simulation with Gcode Viewer and see what the nozzle is doing layer by layer and what effect different options make to the seam
could be the printer pausing too long during a Z move.
very hard but they tell you to try and tell if the problem is caused at the end of the layer by the nozzle or the beginning of the next layer after the nozzle moves.
then it involves the retraction amount and speed.
slowing is suppose to help something like this.

Here is an image of Marvin from the pre generated gcode that came with the printer. Layer height is 100.
Shouldn`t this turn out better than this?

i never tried to print marvin on my machine.
if i have time over the weekend i will load up PLA and try it on mine, i see 2 things 1) seems like it is overextruding a little its a little puffy looking and it has that bubbly look on the chin area that might be filament moisture related.
I have the PRUSA silver PLA that has been sitting around in a non-vacuumed bag with desiccant for about 2 months. that would be a good comparison in running marvin then tossing the PLA into my filament dryer for a while and trying again and see if there is a change with the same gcode file off the SD card.

ok this was mine i just ran off in prusa silver pla
I took it right off the SD card as is, this is the very first time i ever printed this model.
mine appears to have under extruded a little the feet de-laminated a bit when i took it off like the heat was a little low.
it was printed with the flap closed on my enclosure.
the PLA has been open for about 2 months i had it in a bag with some desiccant but i never baked it.
i'd try it again after i bake the pla for a few hours and try again.

I printed it and I think it looked better than that. too bad I gave the model to my niece. I may print another one after my print finishes

After over a month think I have found the culprit...
After putting together the printer the first prints were great. Soon after that they were not. But I could never figure out which variable changed....Until last night. I remembered that I switched straight to OctoPrint and started printing over USB.
So I ran some test print and found out that the same gcode printed over SDcard looked MUCH better than over USB.
Here are some new pictures of some Marvin prints all straight from SD Card and trying different slicers.
Slic3r and Simplify3D were set up with the stock profile provided straight from Prusa.

output the Gcode to your desktop and copy the one off the SD card to the desktop and look at the Gcode or run it through gcode viewer and see the differences.
also try copying your file to the SD card and running the same file directly from the SD verse USB if you see a difference then something is getting lost during USB transfer.

as a follow up, i dried the pla for over 12 hours, and ran another print there is no difference. similar defects are visible with marvin
so any changes to the PLA made no difference.

This is indeed unexpected!
I'm waiting for my kit and was on the verge of getting a Pi3 for Octoprint, but I may change my mind... This may indicate a USB communication issue.
Daniel, you should report this to the support and come back to us with their reply.

don't think that there's something fishy with the communication via USB, guess it's related to the timing...

For me, a timing issue is a communication issue, but in the end, we're thinking the same thing

people are reporting issues with Octoprint and the mk2 i've seen a few threads about strange errors occuring.
