Extruder cable broken…
Hello all,
I started to print an object before going to bed and the next morning, I just discovered a nice ball of melted PLA around the extruder. I tried to take off carefully all this stuff but finally saw that a little cable of the extruder is broken… Is it possible to sold it again or fix it or do I have to change the entire extruder ? I have a new I3 MK2S for 6 months…
Thanks for your answers.
Olivier
Re: Extruder cable broken…
Olivier,
Those "blobs" usually break the thermistor wiring, and you can just replace the thermistor. (That is the very thin wires that go to the front of the heat block, not the thicker ones that go to the back.) Very inexpensive.

More importantly, those "blobs" can be avoided with a very carefully set Live Z and a very clean bed.

Good luck.

Re: Extruder cable broken…
Aaron, thank you for your answer,
I finally ordered a full assembled hotend because the "blob" went in every little hole… and couldn't take off the thermistor.
The Z axis was well set… it was the bed that wasn't cleaned enough…
I still don't know enough well printer parts to change them by my way… And it did it job very well. I hope it will be the same with the new part…

Re: Extruder cable broken…
If you heat the hot end (or us a heat gun) you should be able to clean it and keep it as a spare.

Re: Extruder cable broken…
Yes Aaron, I'll do that. And I will see where the broken cable will be with the new hotend…
