Almost imposible to remove PLA from PEI

Hello,

I', printing PLAtec vom twoBEars and it's printing veeeery smooth and looks brilliant.
But it's almost imposible to remove the prints from the PEI sheet. I' print on PEI cleaned with IPA.

I tried more Z -height, but then it warped away.

Any hints for removing the prints?
My PEI is already damaged from removing the prints

Re: Almost imposible to remove PLA from PEI

hi bastian, i've the same problem here with the platec stuff ❗

last weekend i finally managed to crack the pei sheet 😥 of my mk2, and meanwhile i've a hole in the middle of the sheet (covered now with tesa-tape), where the crack was 😮 .

💡 the only thing that helps is to add "mouse ears" to the printed object, which means you have to modify the *.stl before slicing it.
therefore i open the *.stl with designsparks-mechanical, convert the mesh into a solid, choose an appropriate edge of the surface that's going to be placed at the prindbed, add a 10 - 15mm circle (or square) and extrude the additional surface about 0.4mm.
➡ after the print, you can lift this "mouse ear" much easier and get with your spatula under the edge.... from where you can push the spatula between the object and the sheet. and it's quite easy to cut the mouse ear off from the print with a sharp knife.

maybe I will use a FILAPRINT instead of PEI

how thick is the filaprint surface ? if it's to thick, you'll get issues with the pinda probe !
i think jason from printbite mentioned that they've produced especially thin sheets (0.5mm instead of 0.8mm) which they want to test with prusa's mk2.

I talked to the owner of filafarm and he told me that his FILAPRINT has a thickness of 0.8 mm

Re: Almost imposible to remove PLA from PEI

I have similar problems with the PLA from rigid.ink.

But this works good for me :

http://de.rs-online.com/web/p/kaltespray/0233884/

Cooling-Spray (don't know the exact word in English)

Just freeze the bed around the object, wait a few seconds, and peel it off.

last weekend i finally managed to crack the pei sheet
Welcome to the club 😛

It's okay I'm german, Kältespray is ok for me 😉

My sheet is heavily scratched, I hope the scratches are only on the sheet and not on the heatbed itself..

OK 😉

But be careful, don't freeze the object too much PLA will become fragile.

Sometimes, I hear an soft *click* while freezing, then the object become loose.

It talked again to the filafarm owner and he told me, that he has a lot of customers using FILAPRINT with mk2 and P.I.N.D.A.
So I'll give it a try

Re: Almost imposible to remove PLA from PEI

I talked to the owner of filafarm and he told me that his FILAPRINT has a thickness of 0.8 mmso it's the same as for the standard printbite sheet. but to be honest, it's ridiculous expensive. 3dB more and you can buy a new prinbed  . the printbite is significant cheaper, even when you order it in the uk.
might be a little bit tricky to get the pinda sufficient adjusted, but should be possible (if your pinda is not severely deaf).

anyhow, let us know when you got your filament sheet (as mentioned in the other thread, the guy(s) from berlin botched up several orders... so their customers have to wait about a month for delivery).

about the cooling spray (Kältespray):
i've always a can of it near my printer....
😕 but curiously it won't work with the PLATec stuff from twoBEars for me.

What temperatures do you use for printing PLAtec?

Re: Almost imposible to remove PLA from PEI

💡 here the platec is printed with 215/55.
➡ prints very well, superb layer bonding, very strong, high vicat temperature. no problems with warping etc..

there are only two issues with this filament:
1st: print sticks like hell at the prinbed (that's why we have this thread here)
2nd: very expensive.

I suspect this is the problem, recommended printing temperature is 190-195. I'm going to test the print on this temperature and see if it gets off PEI better.

➡ hmmm... the sticker at the box says: processing temp 185 - 220 °C.
❓ maybe we should print the first layer with this filament at a lower temperature ?

Re: Almost imposible to remove PLA from PEI

Just tried. Printed test object at 190 and guess what? Gets off bed much better. 🙂

I print my firstlayer @ 188 and the rest with 195 as suggested on the twoBEars homepage (producer)
Still was very hard to remove. Bed was @ 45

Re: Almost imposible to remove PLA from PEI

Try dripping a little Isoprop Alcohol along the edges of the finished print and wait a few seconds. I don't know why this works, maybe because of the scratches on my PEI, but it seems to crawl under the print and removing it is much easier then. Or maybe i am nuts. The remaining IPA can then be used to clean the bed, so nothing is wasted.

So is anybody using Filaprint on their MK2 now? I used to use it on my Ultimaker and basically had the problem of it sticking either way to hard or not sticking at all with Greentec.

Re: Almost imposible to remove PLA from PEI

I have exactly the same issue, but strangely not for my first trial. Since, it sticks like hell. I had to re-warm the bed at 80°C after printing. Then, I can remove the part but the first layer is lost...
I used the same parameters than Prusa PLA: 215°C first layer then 205°C, bed 55°C.

I saw the some tried lower temperature without success.
I tried to clean using IPA, then apply window cleaner like for PETG. Not better...
