ABS Supports Slic3r Settings

So I have been having fantastic prints up until I recently started using supports for larger more complex parts. Is there a recommended setting that would make the part quality better? The Tops of my prints look fantastic ...but the support side looks awful. I am using Sllic3r with Rafting and Rectlinear grid at 45* angle.

Sorry, I can't help a lot, but it looks like you need to play about with the support settings. Solid support layers, distance between support and part and support density.

Best thing to do is to create a model for testing with the type of overhang you are looking to print.

Generally printing onto a support will not create as good a finish, but having the support parameters set to your requirements will certainly help.

One other thought

Ensure that the extrusion width is set the same as the nozzle diameter. If it is more than the nozzle diameter, then printing on supports could cause saggy bottoms.

I created a Torture Test for supports.

You can decrease the Contact Z distance and also the pattern spacing which will make more of the supports but they will be harder to remove.

You can also try cutting the model in halves and assemble them. Slic3r has a Cut function which even rotates the bottom half 🙂

Thanks josef I am actually in the process of trying this approach. I figured if the top always looks good then I should split it and weld it.
