Which R2 Parts are Needed

I am in the process of printing the new R2 parts for my MK3. I have printed the new x-axis parts the Z-axis from RHDreambox and the new belt holder and back on the extruder. I am trying to determine if I need to print the new extruder parts. Are there any significant enough changes to the extruder parts to warrant replacing them?

Also is there a two part belt holder back for the new parts so that in the future I don't have to undo all the wiring?

Thanks,
Nathan

Re: Which R2 Parts are Needed

I asked myself the same question, since I got the very first version of the printer (even the V1.0.0 Einsy board).

In the end, I the printer is working just fine and I scrapped the idea of taking everything apart, printing it anew etc.

As long as my printer is doing fine, I wont do any upgrades, since strucural upgrades wont have that much of an quality improvement if the printer did behave okayish before.

When LA comes back, I´ll be completly happy.

I'm not rushing to dismantle my early mk3 either...

had the JLTX X axis back plate from day one, printed it on my Mk2 mmu as a single colour print

have fitted a replacement part cooling duct in PLA, which is working ok with TPU, PETG and PLA prints.

fitted a small indicator on the extruder motor to show rotation

fitted a mirror image filament carrier on the main frame... That will upset some folk!

and two filament guides

I fitted braided cable covers from day one

added a cable anchor to the X motor, to anchor the Braid and reduce cable fatigue

the heatbed power cable broke, so I fitted new flexible silicone insulated wires and a new heat bed cable clamp

the filament sensor was false triggering... prusa replaced it, it's still false triggering, just not quite so much, so I turn it off, unless I expect to need notification... (using up ends of rolls)

and that's about it!

apart from that, it's absolutely standard... 🙂

I have some toothed 20tooth idlers with double bearings and a Y axis tensioner readily available

regards Joan

I made up a 2 part design that uses the extruder carriage extension (or whatever that piece that sticks out with the wires cable tied to it is called). The only issue is that it is for my cable chain design ( https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2794755 ) It would probably work with the normal braided sleeve/spiral wrap but I can't make any promises.

I'll upload it to thingiverse when I get home from work.

To answer your original question, I reprinted:

  • All of x-axis parts (including the two extruder carriage parts) to fix the x-axis pulley tilting issue
  • The z-axis parts. Since I had the printer apart I figured I'd put these in as well

I actually use a cable chain for the main wire bundle at the moment so maybe your design would work for me so please do post!

I found this to be a most worthwhile upgrade by Area51 - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2748862

Great idea which should be added to the printer as standard IMHO

Hey it's included in my thingiverse post now, let me know if you have any issues with it ( https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2794755 )

Thanks! I printed it out last night and will hopefully start breaking down my printer tonight.

Sent you a pm, the x carriage back plate has the center hole in the wrong place. Other than that it printed great.
