Re: Upgraded Y axis belt tensioner
For you Matthew, fresh off the bed in genuine Prusa Orange PETG 🙂
Looking good In orange. I have a black printer coming so I wanted to see how it looks, thank you. How’d it print with petg? It looks pretty good to me!
Didn't have the parts I needed for this, got em scheduled to be in Tuesday.
Nice let me know. Ps I printed your sorbothane feet adapters. They’ll be going on for the initial build.

Printed fine in PETG, I'm very pleased with the design and the filament.
Personally I consider all black Prusa printers to be sacrilege! Here's a set of new R2 prints to tempt you to the Prusa Orange side!
Re: Upgraded Y axis belt tensioner
I made up all 3 versions using Black PETG at 40% fill and they seem fine.
Whilst I have all of the hardware to make them up, I don't have the 16T and 20T pulleys yet, so have to wait until they arrive.
Currently I am using the smooth pulley version, using the stock belt holder and RHDs re-enforced mount...
I get the feeling that the preferred solution is the 16T pulley, but are people using the standard belt holder, or RHDs modified one?

Jon I’m not sure there’s much of a difference if at all between 16t and 20t considering it’s just an idler. The main thing is the dual ball bearings. The stock belt holder is sufficient, the three idler sizes were designed around the stock belt holder dimensions. If the upgraded belt holder maintains the same belt mounting locations then it should work fine!
Re: Upgraded Y axis belt tensioner
Hi Matthew,
Printed the 16T tonight, but the alignment is off. Started comparing it to RHD's original 16T idler, and I suspect you may have flipped it around when matching the two up (understandable, the 16T aligns lower than the 20T or stock). Here they are compared in the correct orientation:
I started to edit the meshes, but figured if you could edit or provide the model files it would be more accurate.
Edit: Original image showing the lower resting bearing:
Thanks!

Ahh, I see the problem. The tensioner that I designed is specifically intended to be used with the stock belt holder.
I worked around what was already available on the printer so that whichever idler you have/chose to use you can just print the two parts that make up the idler and it would already give you perfectly parallel belts.
From what I gather, RHD redesigned the belt holder for correcting the belt parallelism issue. Since I was starting from scratch with the tensioner, I used IT to correct the parallelism issue therefore working with the stock belt holder.

Is it possible for you to upload your model files to the Thingiverse post? I like the design of this, but I also like RHD's modifications for the following reasons:
I realize I am the one off user here, so I don't mind making the edits. 🙂

Not necessarily one off - I've been putting off my 'tweaks and rebuild' for various reasons, but lurking the forum pays off with y'all testing and refining for me 🙂
Re: Upgraded Y axis belt tensioner
I'm unable to get the fillet to print properly on the U shaped part.
Re: Upgraded Y axis belt tensioner
Yeah I'm having no luck getting these fillets on the U shaped piece to print right in PETG.
