Re: Strange noise from the y Axis

Haven't got my MK3 yet - but that noise sounds to me like the noise of a belt rubbing against the edge of the stepper motor pulley. My current K8400 printer has this sort of noise on one axis if the belt rubs against the pulley if its not aligned nicely.

Might be worth checking that out. Also, what is the Y belt tension?

Had the same noise on my MK2S - it was the x-axis belt rubbing idler pulley flange. Just solved it by moving the pulley (changed the x-end-idler model).

Have a look at my models on Printables.com 😉

Re: Strange noise from the y Axis

I have the same sound on my MK3. It is the y belt rubbing the flange of the idler pulley (in my case). It showed up after I installed my new rods. I got the belt on tighter such that the idler screws are loose (otherwise it’d be too tight) and it may be shifting. I haven’t had time to debug but the advice of others is correct.

Just to chime in: mine does not make that noise, so it is something you should chase down. The pulley related comments above are a simple step. There have also been reports of 'soft' rods and y-axis bearings grinding on them. There is a thread, but apparently if your rods will attract a magnetic you don't have that issue (quick check).

Silly question, did you make sure that the black filament was properly loaded into the back of the extruder? I had a similar sounding issue and I discovered that the black filament came out and was rubbing on the inside of the cable train when the x axis was moving.

Re: Strange noise from the y Axis

Hello, i have an MK3. it worked perfectly for 2 months. Then de Y bellt-idler started making noise / squeeking.
I dissasembled realigned and found out the problem was not de belt and pulley.
The real problem is the screw and de nyloc nut. It starts unscrewing and moving and squeeking against de nyloc or the printed part.
I tried tighten it, but it keeps unscrewing and i cant super tighten it beacause the Y axis idler bearing won´t be able to move freely.

Has anyone solved this problem?

You could try replacing the nut with a normal one and use thread locker instead. It may also be possible to just use the existing nylock nut with thread locker, I don't know how the two react.
