Re: Selftest - X Axis Length

We theoretically can preset the Live adjust Z distance. Wait for the probe to register the bed, and go down until the nozzle hits the sheet.

This could be a nice feature.
I made a DIY steel plate for my MK3 because the spring sheet is too flexible for big prints.

And guess what, it has different magnetic properties than the spring steel, so i have to adjust the Live Z value.

So probing to find the offset could be useful. But as a gcode command not as a calibartion feature.

This is happening to me, I cant get past the self test. I don't know what the "xends" are.

I've taken a photo from a few different angles.

I am dreading taking apart the extruder again. It was a pretty gnarly. Any any ideas?

In my case the wire from the noctua fan was not tightly enough pulled through/into the wire holder so it sticked out a tiny bit. After pulling this wire further this part in the selftest was ok.

gonna have to do that, your wires from the extrusion motor aren't supposed to be showing( 3 picture wires on the left of the fan).

It should look like this (I believe):

I had the same issue. Tried tightening the belt, rewirering with no luck. After Reading in this thread i disabled StealthMode. Problem solved. 😀

I'm really confused. I cant figure out how you did this. Looking at the instructions, which step guides these wires like that? http://manual.prusa3d.com/Guide/5.+E-axis+assembly/510?lang=en

I retraced each step and can't see it. Thanks for any help

Look at the third image for step 33, the motor cables goes to the left of the fan cable, and they are quite snug. In the pictures for step 34 you can't even see the motor cables.

So I unhooked everything and took off the back. I'm seeing the photo you are mentioning, but I cannot figure out how the cables are supposed to be routed.

To confirm, the extruder cable does go through the track (above the fan)?

I took the fan off as well to see if there was some secret channel behind the fan I missed. I'm still not seeing it.

Wow... just wow... I think I see it now. The directions are not super clear here. Does this look right?

Ok, I took the whole extruder off and when looking at the front I see the "secret channel" I've redone the cabling and I think it should look like this. https://imgur.com/a/0SBzh

Looks more like yours..

Hopefully this works. 🙂

Self test works!!

Thanks for the guidance.

Now I can't get it to calibrate (auto fails immediately) I'll search around forums and see if there something else I need to figure out.

Re: Selftest - X Axis Length

Self test failed for me.

Normal mode not stealth mode - checked
Physical contact, zip ties, wires - checked
Tightness of screws at the back - checked

What else can I do?

The extruder moved to the extreme left but seems to fall short a little bit to the right.
When power off, I need to push harder to move the x axis than the y axis, is it normal?

Edit: I ignored this step and proceeded to other calibrations. Now I am printing fine. Still want to have all tests pass though.

Re: Selftest - X Axis Length

I couldn’t get through the wizard or XYZ calibration with the firmware my printer was delivered with. I tried everything and damn near took about the whole printer and reassembled to no avail. I upgraded to RC2 (137 I believe) and voila, went through the whole calibration process no problem. I occasionally get a bed level fail which is weird but prints look beautiful.

Pretty dissapointing that it didn’t work right out of the box though. I’ve assembled two MK2S kits so it wasn’t a big deal but I definitely would have struggled if it was my first build.

Yeah, it is pretty clever little machine. We can measure the axis length and compare it to what it should be 🙂

Happy printing!

I am on new product design and we have a similar XYZ stage and using Trinamic controllers but have limit switches. I showed them your design and asked why a $750 has this and our $200,000 instrument does not. Mindboggling.

In my case the cable of the Noctua fan was not going around the corner tightly enough (stuck out a little bit), after pulling that cable a bit tighter to the carriage and further in the cable beam (yes I did need to take that apart in order to pull it 😉 ) the selftest was ok. See the photo I posted in this topic of the situation after the correction.

I solved the issue by manually moving the axis in the settings menu back and forth a few times checking after what might get caught.. didnt see anything but then it worked in the selftest.. magic fixed it i guess 😉

Re: Selftest - X Axis Length

Just want to throw this out there because I spent a few hours trying to find the cause of the Selftest Error. For me it was due to the pulley on the stepper motor not being tight. It would slightly turn. Fortunately, I saw the grub screw wasn't perpendicular with the flat of the motor shaft when I was trying to tighten the belt.

Thanks, had a TINY bit of fan wire stick out of the side of the extruder... FAIL! All better now! Much appreciated!

PINDA cable is making me fail self test - X axis length

I really think I've fixed my problem with x axis length as far as wiring and zip ties are concerned, I get a nice solid clunk of the extruder body against the orange body of the x motor housing.
On the right side I just don't see how the PINDA wire can do anything but get in the way. The PINDA cable is the first thing to make contact when moving to the right. It exits its little guide/channel out the back and then is right pinch against the inside edge of the metal frame.

Can anyone post some clear images of what their PINDA cable looks like? How are you routing it so it doesn't hit the inner right steel frame?

EDIT: Problem solved, I figured it out! ALL the cables need to go through the pass-through hole in the back of the extruder - except the filament sensor and the nozzle heater and thermistor. Once I routed all the right cables through the cable channels and through the hole out the back of the extruder I passed all my self tests! Woohoo! 😀
