Problems with fine details, stringing/blobs?

Completed my kit this weekend. Having a lot of fun with my son printing things. Have had great success using stock settings while only messing with the z axis live setting to get it dialed in.

He wanted to print a mini Stanley Cup. It has small little details on the cup, and it turned out horribly. This is our first printer, so not sure what settings to play with to fix this,

Sliced with Slic3r Prusa edition, printed from octoprint.

Re: Problems with fine details, stringing/blobs?

what are you using to slice the model?
Slic3r , Prusa Control,
something else?

it looks quite small,

try 0.1mm layer height 0.05 might be better but might need a bit more experience...

slow the print speed down, (easiest on the LCD) say 50%

best wishes, Joan

Slic3r. .1mm layer height. 40mm/s as that was the default setting for the profile.

If I adjust the speed in slic3r, would this be perimeter or external perimeter?

It would be easier to use the lcd which reduces all parameters in one go..

Did you upgrade to the latest firmware? There's a bug fix in the current release that fixes some serious print quality problems with thin layer heights.

I have not upgraded yet and plan on doing so after work.

Going through the slic3r preview, it seems some of the problem is because the ribs have infill. So the nozzle would bounce around and drop a dab of infill into each rib, then trace around them. Due to the thin walls, the nozzle would catch on the dab of infill and string it around as it circled. I got best results reprinting this with 0 infill since it's so tiny, but quality is still a bit lacking. We'll see how it goes after the 3.1.3 update.
