Printing settings and environement for Prusa MK3
Hello !
I'm writing this post to ask you for some help today !
I received my MK3 last week and built it this weekend, and at the beginning it was quite cool, but now i'm kind of panicking ^^'
I love 3d printing, but i had a bad experience with a french version of the Prusa made by emotion tech, put hundred of euros into it and never really made it work. So in the beginning of using the mk3 I was quite happy, but now i'm panicking, like very much ^^' ( scared to break it, to lose money again, to not have it for the final of french cosplay cup end of the year, etc )
So if you could help me it would be great ^^ ! Now i'll explain !
First of all the printer is installed in a little room, for now on an old desk. Which i think doesn't help at all for noise ( yes mine is quite loud too), i don't know if it's because i tightened the motor belts too much or because of the desk :/, i need to try it again, but one night i put on the floor and then it was quite silent.
For that i was thinking about the ikea lack idea i saw on reddit to make an enclosure for her, do you think this table is stable enough for that ?
And now for the printing problems ^^'
So first of all, once i built it, i printed a marvin, classic, and it was, well, not perfect but still good. The second print greatly improved as it was a pratically perfect benchy, even seeing a little on the engravment behind it, i was quite pleased !
Don't mind the failed oranges one, they're made with ABS and for what i've got of info, its only due to the printer not being in an enclosure ( strangely it's only with overhang it has that problem, i managed to print a phantom cigar from MGS V that i designed in ABS )
And since this benchy, i tried to print somes littles thing to test everything out, and now it seems that, there is overextrusion or i don't know :/
I tried several of the models in the sd card, and there is this big blobs, sometimes, even with pla the first layer fail, making some ooze or bubbles i think ? And last night i tried to put on the "best" desk i got.
And i got this monstruosity while shed did a lot of noise... So, here i am ^^'
To be precise, i redid whole wizard everytime i moved the printer, and before the benchy, i checked every screws to see if they were tightened.
That's why i'm kind of panicking now ^^' between the overextrusion and the noise ( for the noise i'll edit this message out tonight after testing it on floor again ).
I know it's kind of a long and messed up/ not well organized message x) i'm at work and was trying to write this message down as fast as possible XD and sorry for my english, i'm french ^^'
So that's it ! Thanks in advance for the help guys 😀
Re: Printing settings and environement for Prusa MK3
For the belts, check the handbook, section 13.4.
When I asked support about the belt status numbers they said :
250+ for X
290+ for Y
if lower than these values, then the belts are too tight
If it is loud on the desk, and quite on the floor, it is the desk making the noise. Put some padding under it, or something really solid. I have seen some people use concrete pavers.
Re: Printing settings and environement for Prusa MK3
Thanks a lot ! I must have skipped the part about the values ! It'll really help !
And yeah i think saw, that's why i was asking about the ikea lack ^^ If they make good support for the prusa ^^
Re: Printing settings and environement for Prusa MK3
which version of the firmware are you currently using? I'm asking because in one of the last versions (might have been b143, not sure) the extrusion multiplier was adjusted to deal with overextrusion.
About the last print, did you sclice it for the correct material? Any other changes you made?
Re: Printing settings and environement for Prusa MK3
Well I'm currently the b143, it was the one installed on the mk3 when I received it, and it's when I installed the b150 that's everything started to go like what I described.
So I downgraded to b143 to try it out, and still on it for now.
The prusa logo and the benchy have been printed with the same pla as the first benchy.
But the prusa logo in b150 with the g code in sdcard and the benchy in b143 with a g code I generated using prusa control in high detail pla.
The only other difference is the room.
Re: Printing settings and environement for Prusa MK3
I would upgrade to the latest firmware, and don't use the gcode on the SDcard. Use STLs and slice on the latest prusa Slic3r with latest settings.
It's likely the SDCard gcode worked OK at the factory with the firmware at the time (although I haven't had good results with that gcode). However, the firmware has been updated several times since then (even 143 is likely more recent that that gcode).
Slice yourself, or you don't really know what you've got.

A value below 290 for the Y is too tight????
They should update the manual then.....
