Nozzle crashes into bed during calibration

Hi everyone,

After finishing my build, I had the nozzle crash into the bed during XYZ calibration. My questions are:

1) Is the damage shown in this image likely to cause problems printing? ( https://imgur.com/a/C6RUi )
2) Is the calibration problem likely due to a pinda probe that is too high? (i can tell the probe is finding the bed when I lower it)

Also, I noticed that there's a skew to my bed (the upper right corner is higher than the lower left). I'm not sure if it's due to my build, or if it's not resting on a completely level surface. I assume this problem is automatically detected and corrected in calibration?

Thanks for all your help!

Re: Nozzle crashes into bed during calibration

1 - not a major problem, happened to me as well. Just cover it with something so it doesn't corrode. I used black nail polish.
2 - yes, lower the PINDA.

Check that all heated bed screws are tightened equally and, the thermistor cable isn't caught between a stander and the bed. You can further adjust the bed from the settings (or calibration) menu, but if it's not a large difference the mesh bed leveling should adjust for it.

Had the same thing happen to me. Pinda was set properly and the printer properly calibrated with no issues. During calibration the printer went to the home position and then zipped over to the left, leaving a scratch. Haven't had the issue since it was calibrated.

Depends how you noticed it.... you can automatically correct for like 100-200 Microns... that's 0.1-0.2 mms... if it's noticeable by eye, you need to definitely fix it. recheck the build.

Thanks! Any tips on correcting bed level problems other than the bed screw tightness mentioned above?

Perhaps the bed level correct option might be of use. But try it out as it is first and see how it prints.

Re: Nozzle crashes into bed during calibration

not sure if you solved your "crashing into bed problem"... mine was caused by a bad PINDA. Support replaced with a new version (grey) and it's working fine now.

Thanks,
Ken

Re: Nozzle crashes into bed during calibration

This happened to me. It turned out that the PINDA probe was not fully plugged into the EINSY controller board. Fixing the cable fixed the calibration problem. Unfortunately, I had more damage to my heater board. I ended up covering that section of the board with Kapton tape to insulate the exposed copper traces from (a) the steel build plates, and (b) the print head during full XYZ calibration.

I solve problems, usually with computers ...
