My MK3 is AWESOME

Now that I have gotten through the issue I was having with PETG not sticking (slicer error) I have to say my MK3 is the best printer I have. It is my 7th printer and of all of them I find it the least stressful one. We lost power in the middle of a large print and it resumed as it should. If I run out of filament it pauses and waits for me to add more. And it's so quiet I can print 24x7 with none of my family complaining. It's a bloody smart design. Thank you Josef.

Thanks for posting this. I currently use a Printrbot Metal which is perfectly dialled in and does everything I ask of it.

The MK3 was my first upgrade and I have been really looking forwards to getting it.. But there have been so many posts from people with problems that I have been a little disheartened.

Your comment is more than a little re-assuring.. Mine was delivered a few days ago and I will build it next week once Christmas is out of the way, so I have my fingers crossed my experiences will be the same as yours.

Cheers and Merry Christmas.

Jon

I wouldn't get all warm and fuzzy until they fix the firmware...

I haven't seen any issues with the firmware. I just started a few days ago printing BB9 on it and every part has come out perfect.

Makes me wonder if the two different boards are the problem? Mine's got issues ..."daughter board"edition.

Re: My MK3 is AWESOME

Maybe I missed something, but do we know that the currently shipping printers no longer have the daughter board?

That would be an interesting metric to track--if all of the problems that people have been having were related to having the daughter board version.

Mine has the daughter board and no problems yet but only printed 2 PLA prints from the SD card.

My Mk3 is also awesome. Worth every penny!

I have the daughter board and the latest firmware, which has seemed a bit flakey in places. Despite that I am in full swing printing parts for my next project on the Mk3, quietly and fast.

What firmware are you using? ...IMO the latest is shite.

Dont worry guys 🙂 mentioned "bugs" are common for all MK3 printers... but some can not recognize them and some do not want to recognize them 😀 We are just waiting for fix from Prusa team. It would be a nice christmas gif from them.

Re: My MK3 is AWESOME

Depends on if the bugs are firmware or hardware. I don't think even Prusa can fix a poorly designer idler pulley with a firmware update 😁

Re: My MK3 is AWESOME

I want to 2nd the statement that it's good to hear of success. I saw in some other thread on this forum that someone was having a wonderful time and the prints were perfect. I didn't realize how much it takes out of me to read several hundred posts about problems folks are having with the MK3.

My hat is off to Josef Prusa, not only for building a wonderful machine (I believe), but also for not jumping off a bridge with all these complaints. I feel each compliant is justified if folks are having problems, BUT, it sure would be nice to know some stats. How many machines, how many are completely satisfied. What kind of replacements, etc. How many parts broke, on and on.

A complete, transparency of the successes and failures would also be interesting for other machines as well, to give us some idea if the MK3 is a "Lamborghini" or a "Ford". 🙂

I vote Tesla.

I am having a great time!!! The filament sensor, the quiet operation, the wizard for setting the first layer height, the EXCELLENT instructions! and most importantly the forum -- any one of these reasons would justify buying this printer.

I am absolutely geeking out! 😀

Re: My MK3 is AWESOME

I'll throw my hat in with the positive experience. I bought the kit and ran into only one problem. My first prints had horrible layer shifting, but only because I forgot to tighten down the x-motor belt gear. Otherwise, running perfectly at 7 prints in. I bought the kit and am running 3.1.0 firmware. Sure, there are a couple of little bugs but nothing that affects prints and nothing that can't be worked around by selecting other menu items. Overall, I'm immensely satisfied.

Background: This is my 5th 3D printer, which includes a MK2 kit that has been upgraded to MK2-S and MK2-S+.

Sounds like Google Spreadsheet time.

Re: My MK3 is AWESOME

Now that the mk3 is all setup and finished the calibration, it is my favorite of my 2 prusas. I've printed pretty much non-stop over the past 4 days when I got it. No issues so far after the calibration (daughter board edition). The calibration took forever. For me I needed to just keep repeating the process until the bearings flowed more freely. It was too tight and wasn't registering the ends properly on x and y and failing.

Now that it works it really works well and makes printing a lot of things or large items not so bad.

Do you mind posting some pictures up close of your print quality? I am trying to find someone's to benchmark against that is working well. My MK2 is amazing and I want to get similar results.

Look at @Leonardo.g3's prints https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk3-f30/poor-print-quality-t12438-s60.html

The green items are old PLA (first stuff I bought in March) and it's torture tests for certification at Treatstock to offer services there.

The testla charging station I printed the white in eSUN PETG at 0.2 layer height. The other parts were printed in PLA on my mk2. This part kept failing on my mk2. Tried several times and it printed on my second try on my mk3. First try I cancelled early due to goober on support material. I didn't want to replace a hotend so soon.

I have better images, but they are of customer prints, so I can't post them. The MK2 images of the green objects didn't come out much better back in March. Part of my issue is that I print objects for customers who have fine detailed prints and then order 0.2 or 0.3 layer height because they don't know any better. I haven't printed very much from Slic3r because it adds the conditional statement that pronterface doesn't know what to do with and my computer doesn't have an SD Card reader (yet). I have solely been printing from Prusa Control for the time being. I'll try to get pics of the 8-bit mario I printed for my neighbor as part of his christmas gift, those pieces all came out great looking.
