Mk3 upgrade kit report
I got my mk3 upgrade kit in. I haven't installed it yet, I may give it a few more weeks to see if mk3 firmware improves first because right now it sounds like a gamble and possible downgrade. But anyhow, I thought people would want to know what I noticed in the kit:
Web site description at the time of ordering said it shipped with easyABS, so I pre-printed parts since I had a spool of the prusa orange. It shipped with PET and the description now reflects that. The instructions say it *must* be printed it PETG. I have a support ticket open for clarification. Hoping the ABS parts work and it's more a "don't use PLA" reason than for shrinkage/tolerance reasons.
Web site description did and still does say it includes a textured powder coated PEI sheet. I got a smooth one. I did not get a coupon for any sort of upgrade and was not notified of this before shipping. Not cool.
This is probably a good thing, I was surprised by how few parts are removed from the mk2s and re-used:
Motors
pulleys
idler pulleys
LCD screen
extruder tension springs (OK, but really?)
I was expecting to also have to re-use:
Rods
bearings
bearing U holders
The 3mm "support" filament in the wire looms
wire looms
belts
LCD cables
Possibly nozzle and heat break
Possibly the bed thermistor
Power cord
Spool holder
many machine screws and nuts
Re: Mk3 upgrade kit report
don't have to be petg, but its probably the best/easiest choice for longevity and durability.
half of mine have been reprinted in pla+ anyway, excluding hotend stuff. carriage, brackets, rod holders all fine.
Re: Mk3 upgrade kit report
A follow-up...
Printer is nearly assembled, so far ABS is working fine.
Here are some parts that they DON'T tell you to pull off the old printer but you do need:
Z-axis trapezoid nuts
LCD cables
Y-axis bearing U bolts (oddly it comes with new nylon nuts but no U-bolts)
Power cable
SD Card (not sure that counts as "on" the printer, but they should mention it so you don't toss it or give it away with the rest of the parts).
Also not really impressed with their hardware bagging and counting. I've had to both use a few spares and had some left over, but no show stoppers yet. With that many pieces something is bound to go wrong, but every bag?
Re: Mk3 upgrade kit report
Hi tom.i7,
could you please send me a PM with check by reading the assembly manual carrefuly, all parts which are included and missing from mk3 upgrade kit to build it complete.
regards.
