MK3 stoping in the middle of printing

My MK3 is stopping during printing for a few seconds and then continues, it does this randomly, but is not frequent, it may be days without happening and it happen with different objects, I am using Simplify3D. I upgrade firmware to the latest, but same problem.

This problem is happens to my MK2, I notice this after firmware upgrade to the latest, also after finish printing return home slow, the same as my MK3 which return home very slow taking at least 30 to 45 seconds, in the MK2 is less time.

Re: MK3 stoping in the middle of printing

how are you printing to the mk3? usb, octoprint or SD card?

remove the USB cable and disconnect the Raspberry pi if you have one and print solely from the SD card. I have not had issue since I have done this. hope a firmware update comes out to fix the serial communication soon.

Re: MK3 stoping in the middle of printing

I am running the RC4 firmware and printing from the SD card. I am having prints pause in mid print, and just sit there with both heaters on, until I push the knob. Then it takes back off and continues printing.

Overnight I had what should have been about a 3 hr print pause about 85% done, and then sit for 5 hours with the extruder and bed hot. When I returned I just hit the knob and it finished up.

you can try to update it to 134e which jo has posted here: https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk3-f30/octoprint-issues-and-tips-t13156.html

Re: MK3 stoping in the middle of printing

I updated to the 2.1.3 drivers and 143 FW last night. Had to completely re-calibrate. That went well. Started a print. It ran well till 53% and then the extruder moved away from the part and the board began beeping. I went in to find a message that said to push the button to unload the filament...... I did and it pushed the filament out. It then told me to reload it and it went back to printing??? Printing from SD but I have a usb hooked up. When the print finishes I'll disconnect the usb and see if the next print has the same issue..... red pla .. filament sensor on - never happened before I did the updates.

Re: MK3 stoping in the middle of printing

David, is most likely the filament sensor. Blow it out with some canned air, or just disable it. It seems to be very sensitive. I was having this happen quite frequently. Blowing out the sensor cleared it up for about a week. I had a print last night do it, and didn't want the print to pause over night, so I just disabled it. There was plenty of filament to finish the print.

The issue I was having is the printer just freezes, doesn't move the head out of the way, and doesn't beep. Looks like it might have crashed. But pushing the knob fires it back up.

Thank you Scott. I'll try it. Sorry I missed your original point. Different issue for sure. Weirdly (most likely unrelated) I have a Makergear M2E that has momentary (up to about 5 seconds) pauses randomly in the middle of a print. It's running along and just stops and then takes off again. It's printing on the usb.

Yes, same issue here. Have had it happen 4 or 5 times over the last 2 firmware revisions. However up until now I have had a RPi0 plugged into the accessory port. Given all the weirdness still happening with its serial comms, I'm wondering if it could be part of the cause (even though I am only printing directly from SD at this point). I've unplugged the Pi for now. Has not happened since, but will report back either way after few more days of printing.

Am on firmware B143 currently, but I also had it happen on the revision prior to that.

Re: MK3 stoping in the middle of printing

I am having this same issue. I will start a print, it prints for a random amount of time then stops, and filament continues to ooze out like it is still trying to print.

Reading this thread it seems like disconnecting my Raspberry Pi and just printing form the SD card is the solution? Has there been any recent updates that might have fixed this issue?
