MK2S vs MK2.5 vs MK3 upgrade or MK3 new
Does anyone know what is the most sensible choice?
I have a brandnew MK2S and am now wondering, what is the better upgrade path: MK2S vs MK2.5 vs MK3 upgrade or MK3 new
Re: MK2S vs MK2.5 vs MK3 upgrade or MK3 new
I'm planning to get full upgrade since I have enough to buy the full upgrade. Furthermore, the old mk2 electronics and frame still can be used by buying any missing parts for that mk2.
Still unsure what specific items included in mk3 upgrade, I assumed that screws and smooth rods will be included as well. I do remember Tom Sanladerer's interview with Prusa, he said that if we do full mk3 upgrade, the only thing that can be salvaged is the belt and the motor.
I also assume that the prusa's stepper motor are also similar to the generic stepper motor.
Price point, full upgrade costs usd650 while mk3 is usd850. I guess my choice is just go for the full upgrade than buying a new mk3 kit, you will save at least usd100 to have another printer.
Full upgrade once again, usd650, buying generic stepper motor is usd50, leadscrew will be around usd20. Unsure what other things still missing.
P.S
Sorry for the long post, I am kind of bored 😀

Thank you for your post. It is clear and sort of reflects my thoughts.
btw, I am waiting for a print job to finish 😀

I went full upgrade
Planning on putting a laser diode on the mk2

going for laser engraver?
I'm not sure about the old mk2s leftover due to the full upgrade on what to do with them. I personally don't need 2 printers, only 1 printer =\

You need the rods, bearings and motors from the mk2s, but the rest is new

I also assume that the y-carriage will be brought over too.
I ordered mk2 and another mk2s, I have spare rods and bearings from the old mk2 kit that I can use. Just got to buy the motors and belts then.
If the y-carriage are going to be reused from mk2, then I will most likely to model a modular 3d printable y-carriage for mk42 bed

The carriage will have new printed parts at the least. To mount the new extruder, filament sensor and removal of the x limit switch
