Machine Seems to Reset Somewhat Randomly

Just built my MK3 (and I also have a MK2S I built so this isn't my first build or first Prusa). The machine passes self checks.

Upon initial power up I was having issues running XYZ calibration. It would get to point 4 (back left), search for about a minute, and then it would just stop and the LCD would reset back to the default startup screen. No warning or error message was display - it was as if I had just powered the machine on. I reset the machine a number of times, unplugged it, etc. and I couldn't get it to work. Then I tried using the wizard and that seemed to work. I passed it off as being a strange bug but the machine seemed to calibrate fine in the end so I moved on.

Now I've come across another weird issue. I'm seeing the exact same behavior when I try to run PID calibration. I select PID calibration, select the temperature I want (240 in this case), and it briefly displays the text saying its running the first point but then the LCD flashes/blanks and the machine appears to reset. I'm not getting any kind of warning or error message it just blanks out / resets. It's also strange that when I'm selecting the temperate to calibrate to the LCD has a strange "flicker".

I've checked all my connections/wires and everything appears to be perfect per the build manual. The machine is also plugged into a good/clean power source (it's running off the same APC UPS I run all the other machines off of).

Any ideas on what might be going on?

Re: Machine Seems to Reset Somewhat Randomly

I had the TV on while I was building the machine and running through all the calibration steps but I just turned it off and noticed something else that's odd. As soon as it was quiet in my office I could hear a faint but audible clicking noise coming from the power supply. Upon closer inspection (putting my ear up to it) it's more of a popping/snapping noise that sounds to me like arcing inside the supply. I don't smell anything strange and the machine seems to remained powered up and functional (except for the odd behavior I mentioned in my original post) but this seems pretty odd. The noise is definitely audible when the machine is on and there isn't a ton of background noise.

Attaching a zipped video (with audio) of the power supply noise.

Well... i dont know if the problem is the power supply but did you updated to the latest firmware??

PID calibration was one of the things that didnt work prior to the latest firmware.

Re: Machine Seems to Reset Somewhat Randomly

Many of us are having clicking in the power supply. Mine doesn’t sound like arcing, just a gentle clicking when the bed or nozzle is close to temp and there are rapid (maybe 4/second) current changes.

Check separate thread.
